AUSTIN, TEXAS – Lucy Cheadle of Washington University in St. Louis and
Daniel Bonthius of Wartburg College headline the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America ® Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A 13-time All-American in both track & field and cross country, Cheadle has been selected as the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year for Division III Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country while Bonthius has been named the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year for Division III Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country.
The Capital One Division III Academic All-America ® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2014-15 Division III Academic All-America ® teams program.
Cheadle, a three-time Capital One Academic All-America®, is a chemical engineering major at Washington University with a 3.80 GPA (grade point average). The senior from Seattle, Wash., is a first team selection this year and earned first team honors in 2014 with third team recognition in 2013.
She is the most decorated runner in Washington University history. In 2014, Cheadle became just the 13th runner in NCAA Division III women's cross country history to earn U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America recognition in all four years of competition when she finished second at the NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country Championships. She finished fifth at the Division III Championships in 2013, was 21st in the nation as a sophomore in 2012 and placed 20th as a freshman in 2011. She was named the USTFCCCA Division III Midwest Region Athlete of the Year in women’s cross country in 2013 and 2014 and won the University Athletic Association (UAA) Cross Country Championship three times in her career.
Cheadle is a three-time Division III Champion in track & field, winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2014 and 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships and the title in the 5,000-meters at the 2015 Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. She is a six-time All-American in indoor track & field earning the award four times in the 5,000-meters and twice in the 3,000-meters. Cheadle is a three-time All-American in outdoor track & field earning the honor in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Bonthius is a senior biology major from Iowa City, Iowa, with a 4.00 cumulative GPA. This year marks the third consecutive year that he has earned a first team Capital One Academic All-America® honor. He was recently awarded a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and plans on entering the MD/PhD program at the Medical University of South Carolina in the fall.
He is a two-time recipient of the NCAA’s Elite 89 Award given to the participant at a NCAA Championship with highest cumulative GPA. He earned the award at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships and again this March at the 2015 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Bonthius finished sixth in the 800-meters at the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships to earn his second career USTFCCCA All-American recognition. He also earned All-American accolades in the 800-meters at the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2013.
Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team
Cheadle is one of 12 student-athletes to earn a repeat selection as Capital One Academic All-America® in Division III Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country. The team features 10 individuals with a perfect 4.0 G.P.A and the 17 first team selections have an average G.P.A of 3.87.
Cynthia Adams, a graduate student from Lebanon Valley College, is on the first team this year following a second team selection in 2014 and third team honors in 2013. A physical therapy major from Elysburg, Pa., with a 3.61 G.P.A., Adams won the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship in the 800-meters in 2015. She is a three-time USTFCCCA All-American in the 800-meter run, earning the award twice at the Division III Indoor Championships and once at the Division III Outdoor Championships. In 2014 she was honored as the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and is a 12-time MAC Champion in track & field.
Wartburg senior Kayla Hemann joins Adams and Cheadle as this year’s three Capital One Academic All-America® selections to earn the recognition three times in their career. Hemann, an accounting and business administration double-major from Saint Angsar, Iowa, has a 3.87 GPA. She is a first team-honoree this year following a first team selection in 2014 and third team honors in 2013. She has earned All-American recognition three times in the shot put, including a second-place finish in the event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in 2013. She is also a two-time All-American in the weight throw and earned the recognition once in discus.
Senior Emily Lambright of Moravian is a repeat selection after earning second team honors in 2014. She is a double-major in political science and economics with a 4.00 GPA. A native of Chalfont, Pa., Lambright is a first team honoree this year, earning all-mideast region honors from the USTFCCCA in cross country in 2014. She won four Landmark Conference titles in track in 2015 with indoor championships in the 3,000-meters and the 5,000-meters; and outdoor titles in the 5,000-meters and 10,000-meters.
Shelby Mahr of Wisconsin-Whitewater is a first team honoree this year following her third team recognition in 2014. Mahr, a senior from Boyd, Wis., is a special education major with a 3.97 G.P.A. Mahr is a nine-time All-American in throwing events and holds four school records. She is a two-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Becca Sund of Augustana (Ill.) earned a repeat selection in 2015 after earning third team honors in 2014. Sund, a second team honoree this season, is a math and accounting double-major at Augustana with a 3.97 GPA. The senior from Palatine, Ill., was the recipient of a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in the fall of 2014. She is a two-time team MVP in cross country and has the seventh-fastest 6,000-meter time in the history of the Augustana cross country program.
Senior Elizabeth Composto of North Central College (Ill.) picked up second team honors for the second-straight year. A native of Bloomington, Ill., Composto is an interactive media studies major with a 3.88 GPA. She is a four-time USTFCCCA All-American in the indoor pole vault, becoming just the second North Central athlete to earn All-America honors in the same event in four straight years. In 2015 she placed eighth in the pole vault at the Division III Outdoor Championships for her fifth career All-America accolade.
Whitworth’s Dakota Kliamovich earned her second-straight second team recognition. The junior from Liberty Lake, Wash., is a double-major in biology and psychology with a 4.00 GPA. The two-time Northwest Conference Champion in the hammer throw, finished fifth in the event at the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships to earn her second All-America recognition.
Emory University’s Elektra Korn was named a second team Capital One Academic All-America® this year to go with her third team recognition in 2014. Korn, a senior biology major from Woodinville, Wash., holds a 3.77 GPA. A four-time All-American, Korn holds Emory’s school record in the indoor 400-meter dash and the outdoor 400-meter hurdles. A seven-time UAA Champion, she was the 2014 UAA Outdoor Track & Field Most Valuable Performer.
Frances Loeb of Johns Hopkins earned a repeat selection in 2015 after earning third team honors in 2014. Loeb, a senior from Wynnewood, Pa., is a psychology major with a 3.62 GPA. She earned two USTFCCCA All-America selections in cross country in her career. She finished second in the 5,000-meter run and fourth in the 10,000-meters at the 2015 Division III Outdoor Championships. Loeb placed sixth in the 5,000-meters and seventh in the 3,000-meter run at the 2015 Division III Indoor Championships.
Lebanon Valley junior Kelsey Patrick is a repeat selection in 2015, following her 2014 third team recognition. A second team honoree this year, Patrick is a physical therapy major with a 3.93 GPA. The native of Tamaqua, Pa., won the MAC Cross Country Championship in 2012 and 2013 and earned the conference’s Runner of the Year award. A three-time USTFCCCA All-Region selection, she is a three-time qualifier for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.
Trisha King of Trine University earned third team recognition for the second consecutive year. A senior from Archbold, Ohio, King is a math education major with a 3.89 G.P.A. A three-time qualifier in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, she has one All-America selection to her credit.
Seniors Abby Bullmore of Wheaton College (Ill.), Claire Harrington of Mary Washington and
Elizabeth Weirs from Gustavus Adolphus were named as first teamers with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Junior Amy Regan of Stevens Institute of Technology and
sophomore Maryann Gong of MIT also picked up first team accolades with a 4.0 G.P.A.
Junior Amy Viti of Misericordia earned second team recognition with a 4.0 GPA.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Arnold from Alma College and fellow
sophomore Katie Krick from Nebraska Wesleyan each posted a 4.0 G.P.A. to earn a spot on the third team.
Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team
Bonthius is among 15 repeat selections on this year’s Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team. The unit features 12 student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA and the 15 first team honorees have an average GPA of 3.92. There are 27 members on this year’s squad that hold a GPA of 3.9 or higher.
David Voland of Augustana (Ill.) and
Muhlenberg’s Tyler Bauer join Bonthius as three-time Capital One Academic All-America® selections on the first team.
Bauer is a biology and music double-major at Muhlenberg with a 3.92 GPA. The Northampton, Pa., native also earned first team honors in 2014 and collected second team accolades in 2013. A two-time USTFCCCA Division III All-American in the javelin, Bauer was named the Most Outstanding Performer at the 2013 Centennial Conference Championships. The senior recorded the top throw in Division III in the javelin during 2015 to post the 10th-best effort in Division III history.
Voland’s first team recognition this year is joined by a first team honor in 2014 and a third team pick in 2013. A math and education double-major, Voland has 3.83 GPA. The Batavia, Ill., native received a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 2014. He is an 11-time All-American with seven top-eight finishes in the 4X400-meter relay and four in the 400-meter hurdles, twice finishing second in Division III. A school-record holder in the 400-meter hurdles, he was part of Augustana’s first-place unit in the 4X400-meter relay at the 2015 Division III Indoor Championships.
Junior Ben Beidleman of Baldwin Wallace is a two-time Capital One Academic All-America®, earning first team honors this year and in 2014. Beidleman is an economics & finance major with a 3.98 GPA. The Washington, D.C., native is a two-time All-American earning the honor in the 200-meter dash and the 4X100-meter relay. He is a six-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) selection and All-Ohio honoree.
Nathan Rosenbaum of Ohio Northern earned his second career first team honor this year, pairing it with his first team selection in 2014. The senior from Orrville, Ohio is a mechanical engineering major with a 4.0 GPA at Ohio Northern. A 2013 recipient of the NCAA’s Elite 89 Award for the competitor at a NCAA Championship with the highest GPA, Rosenbaum has twice represented the Polar Bears at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.
David Devore of Augustana College (Ill.) is a two-time honoree, earning first team recognition this year. A second team honoree in 2014, Devore is a math and computer science double-major with a 3.68 GPA. A senior from Midland, Mich., he was a member of Augustana’s championship squad in the 4X400-meter relay at the 2015 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. Devore is a nine-time USTFCCCA Division III All-American and a three-time recipient of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Most Outstanding Athlete award at the CCIW Championships.
Zachary Erba of Rose-Hulman was named a first team honoree this year to go with his second team recognition in 2014. He also earned Capital One Academic All-America® in football in 2014 as a second team honoree. Erba, a senior biomedical engineering major from Warsaw, Ind., holds a 3.97 GPA. A Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) champion in the hammer throw, Erba is a first team All-HCAC honoree in outdoor track and a second-team performer in indoor track.
Thiel senior Nic Jones is a repeat selection in 2015, following his 2014 second team recognition. A first team honoree this year, Jones is an early childhood and special education double-major with a 3.90 GPA. The native of Franklin, Pa., earned USTFCCCA All-America honors in the high jump at the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships and at the 2014 Division III Indoor Championships. He was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Most Valuable Performer at the 2014 PAC Indoor Championships and the field events MVP at the 2014 PAC Outdoor Championships.
Brett Sahlberg of Colby was named a first team honoree this year to go with his third team recognition in 2014. A biology major from Duxbury, Mass., Sahlberg holds a 4.01 GPA. A senior at Colby, Sahlberg was third at the Maine State Championships in the 400-meter hurdles and finished fifth this year in the event at the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships.
Senior Brock Taute of Nebraska Wesleyan is a two-time Capital One Academic All-America®, earning first team honors this year and second team recognition in 2014. A physics major with a 3.99 GPA, Taute competed at the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the steeplechase, finishing 13th. The Bertrand, Neb., native is a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier and was the recipient of the Elite 89 Award at the 2014 Division III Indoor Championships and in 2015 he was the recipient of a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
Mark Volker of Hamline is a two-time honoree, earning first team recognition this year. A second team honoree in 2014, Volker is a biochemistry major with a 3.99 GPA. A senior from Cambridge, Minn., he won the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) pole vault championship in 2015 at the conference’s indoor and outdoor championships.
Jalen Weaver from Olivet College was named a first team honoree this year to go with his second team recognition in 2014. A senior exercise science major from Albion, Mich., Weaver holds a 3.83 GPA. He earned USTFCCCA All-America accolades at the 2015 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 800-meter run. The school record-holder in the 800-meter run for both indoor and outdoor, Weaver won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championship outdoors in the 800-meters.
Wartburg's Colt Feltes was named a second team honoree this year to go with his first team recognition in 2014. An accounting and business administration major, Feltes holds a 3.52 GPA. He won the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor Championship in shot put and finished second at the 2015 Division III Outdoor Championships in the event. Feltes is a four-time All-American in shot put and twice earned the honor in discus and holds all of Wartburg’s shot put, weight throw, hammer throw and discus school records.
Senior Erik Holstege of Calvin College is a two-time Capital One Academic All-America®, earning second team honors this year and third team recognition in 2014. Holstege is a biochemistry major with a 3.79 GPA. The Keswick, Va., native was named the MIAA Most Valuable Field Athlete in 2014 and 2015. A three-time MIAA champion in the 110-meter hurdles, he has also picked up conference titles in triple jump and long jump.
Drew Padgett from Washington University in St. Louis is a two-time honoree, earning second team recognition this year and in 2014. Padgett is a psychology major with a 3.62 GPA. A senior from St. Louis, Mo., Padgett is a two-time USTFCCCA Division III All-American in cross country, including a sixth-place finish at the 2014 Division III Cross Country Championships. He is a two-time All-American in the 5,000-meter run outdoor and also has earned All-America honors in the 10,000-meters outdoor and 3,000-meters indoor.
St. Norbert junior Austin Livingston was a first team Capital One Academic All-America® pick with a perfect 4.0 GPA. and
senior John Allison of Waynesburg was a second team honoree with a 4.0 GPA.
Juniors Aditya Bhagavathi of Cal Tech,
Jordan Carpenter of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and
David Motley of MIT all earned second team recognition with a GPA of 4.0.
Seniors Trent Alsin (Whitworth) and
Steve Morgan (Thiel) were named to the third team with a 4.0 GPA as were
juniors Jordan Sellers of Rochester Institute of Technology and
Joshua Sexton from Hood College.
