MEDIA COORDINATION AND STATISTICS NEWSLETTER – AUGUST 2015
This newsletter is put together by the NCAA national office media coordination and statistics staff specifically for SIDs. This will typically come out the first Wednesday of the month. If you have any comments or anything you would like to see in the future, please contact Mark Bedics (
mbedics@ncaa.org).
This is being sent to every email address that we have on file through the statistics sport databases. If there is anyone else that needs to be added that did not receive it, please let us know. Thank you.
• Fall season schedules and rosters – field hockey, football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball – Links are now available on your page after logging in at http://web1.ncaa.org/stats/StatsSrv/login for your fall schedules and rosters.
Schedules should be submitted as soon as possible – if you’re holding to find out one or two contests, go ahead and enter what you have now. Rosters should be entered prior to the team’s first contest. Please update the SID and head coach information as well.
Deadline for schedule input is Friday, August 7.
• Countable Opponents Policy – Effective August 1, 2015
As of August 1, the statistics policy regarding the countable opponents requirements will be strengthened to ensure that non-NCAA teams are legitimate institutions. This policy does not preclude an NCAA school from playing a non-countable opponent and does not have any effect on any legislative sport sponsorship requirements. Please
review the memo and
countable opponents requirements for more information.
• SID Information
Most questions you may have for the statistics staff – including contacts, records books, code numbers, etc. - can typically be answered
here on NCAA.org.
Archived RPI Reports
A database of archived RPI reports can be accessed
here.
• Opponent School Codes
When uploading xml files to the NCAA Statistics portal, please be sure that you are using the correct code for both teams. If a team code is no longer valid, the file will not be accepted into the statistics system and the submitter will receive an error message.
A full list of team codes can be found at
http://stats.ncaa.org/game_upload/team_codes. Additionally, team codes for your opponents can be found on your “Game Reporting” xml upload page when you log-in to the NCAA Statistics site.
• Attendance Figures – For official box scores and/or NCAA reports can be calculated by turnstile count, tickets sold or estimates. NCAA championship tournament figures always are compiled by tickets sold. Schools should make every effort to record an attendance figure on each statistical box score it produces, except for baseball and softball doubleheaders, please use one attendance figure (the higher of the two games) and count it as one date or session. (Updated on 5/5/2015.) For the complete policy, please reference page 14 of the
NCAA Statistics Policies and Guidelines.
• Recent Institution Name Changes
