This is the seventh community service project organized and coordinated by the Goodwill and Wellness Committee in the past eight years (San Antonio ’09, San Francisco ’10, St. Louis ’12, Orlando, ’13, ’14, ’15, Dallas ’16).

Keeper of The Game was founded in 2014 by current Oklahoma State University assistant baseball coach James Vilade, who has also had stops at Oral Roberts University, University of Dallas and University of Texas at Tyler. The mission of the nonprofit foundation is to provide kids and young adults with special needs and disabilities unique baseball experiences that foster the growth of those individuals and their love of baseball. Keeper of The Game promotes programs that allow these athletes to play, watch and experience baseball at a very personal level. This is all done with a focus on advancing servant leadership.

“Keeper of The Game encourages others to make a difference in the community around them through the sport we all love,” MLB All-Star Chris Davis said. “What Keeper of The Game does is necessary and very special.”

In addition to Davis, professional baseball players Elvis Andrus, Adrian Beltre, Andrew Faulkner, Joey Gallo, Craig Gentry, Odubel Herrera, Brock Holt, David Murphy and Josh Tomlin actively support Keeper of The Game.

CoSIDA volunteers will travel to Frisco on Tuesday morning to The Miracle League of Frisco to participate in a baseball skills camp with the children. Following the event, CoSIDA volunteers along with the children will attend a Frisco RoughRiders baseball game at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The Roughriders are the Double A affiliate of the Texas Rangers.

“Our foundation is extremely excited to be partnering with CoSIDA for its annual national convention in Dallas this summer,” Keeper of The Game Founder James Vilade said. “CoSIDA has such a big history of embracing community needs on a local and national level. This partnership will aid our mission to serve those with special needs and disabilities in and around the game of baseball across the country. We recognize the huge impact the many professionals of CoSIDA have in college sports and we are so thankful for their hard work and dedication to the needs of others.”

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Keeper of The Game Foundation at the 2016 CoSIDA Convention in Dallas,” said Chris Mitchell, chair of the CoSIDA Goodwill and Wellness Committee, and Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications at Washington University in St. Louis. “Our volunteers are looking forward to a fun-filled day on the diamond, and the opportunity to share our love for the sport and to give back to the Dallas community.”
