Amendments to the CoSIDA Constitution
- Article 3 – Membership
Proposed Addition: B. Group Membership: Individuals in a sports communications office who qualify for membership under the criteria as defined in Section A (Active Member) may join as a group and be eligible for all member benefits as outlined under the Group Membership policy.
Rationale: Updates the membership section to include the newly established Group Membership category.
- Article 13 – Awards & Citations; Section 2
Current Language: The Association may select up to five members annually for the Hall of Fame Award. Each year, two college division and two university division members may be inducted, along with the next highest vote-getter from any division from among those nominated.
These awards will be selected by previous Hall of Fame recipients and the special Awards committee members. A subcommittee of the Special Awards Committee (Veterans Committee) will consider the credentials of nominees who are no longer active in the profession and may select an additional Hall of Fame member from that group annually.
Proposed Change in Language: Article 13, Section 2 proposed language change: The Special Awards Committee and the previous Hall of Fame recipients will select the annual CoSIDA Hall of Fame class. The Association may select up to six members annually for the Hall of Fame Award with at least one recipient from the college division, one from the university division and one recipient from a list of individuals as submitted by the Veterans Committee. The remaining three members of the class will be determined by the voters with the stipulation that no more than three members of the Class can be inducted annually from any of the three categories of candidates (college division, university division, veterans division).
Rationale: Provides consistency in the selection process and offers more emphasis on merit or most deserving selections as opposed to divisional representation.
- Article 14 – Publications
Current Language: Section 1: The Association shall publish a periodical - CoSIDA Digest - for distribution to its members during the year, including one issue announcing the time, site and program of the forthcoming annual meeting. Information in the Digest shall also be posted on the CoSIDA website in a timely manner.
Section 2: The Association may print and distribute, or have distributed to its members, other publications deemed to be of value to members in their performance of their duties.
Section 3: The Association shall maintain a website for distributing information to the membership and those interested in learning more about the Association. The Director of External Affairs will post content. The Association shall retain rights to the domain name “CoSIDA.com.”
Proposed Change: Delete Article 14 from the Constitution
Rationale: The association no longer publishes the CoSIDA Digest and the guidelines for printing of publications and development of online or other communication resources are better suited for the policy and procedures document.
