Tracy Warren, a member of the Academic All-America Hall of Fame and a nationally recognized employment law and sports attorney in San Diego wtih the firm of Ogletree Deakins Nash Smoak & Stewart, presented a webinar on the upcoming U.S. government's Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime policies and pay structure which go into legal effect in December 2016. Through her powerpoint slide deck and answering questions submitted by CoSIDA members, Warren discussed the impending impact of overtime pay, tracking hours and the ramifications of the new legal overtime laws for college athletic communications staffers.

This was a followup to Warren's popular 2016 Convention session "2016 Legal Challenges Facing Collegiate Athletic Departments and SIDs" on the same topic. CoSIDA members can also access her June presentation on CoSIDA Connect's Resource Library (search "Warren" for her presentation).

This topic and legal ramifications have generated hot discussion and interest for those working in intercollegiate athletics, particularly those in athletic communications. In May, the U.S. Department of Labor released the final new rules on Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)* overtime standards.
