Lincoln Memorial's Erica Whiteaker Headlines CoSIDA Academic All-America® NCAA Division 2 Volleyball Teams
Erica Whiteaker
AUSTIN, Texas – Lincoln Memorial University junior libero Erica Whiteaker headlines the 2017 Academic All-America® Division II Volleyball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A native of Kingston Springs, Tennessee, Whiteaker is the recipient of the Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division II volleyball.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
A biology/pre-medicine major with a perfect 4.00 GPA, Whiteaker is one of 20 newcomers on the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Volleyball Team. She is sixth in the NCAA with her 6.46 digs per set and 17th in the country with her 678 total digs. On the South Atlantic Conference charts, Whiteaker, who is third in the LMU record books in career digs, was seventh in service aces with 37.
Whiteaker broke Lincoln Memorial’s single-season program record for digs by almost 100, topping the previous record of 586 set during the 2013 season. She also eclipsed the previous school record for digs per set of 5.26 established in the 2006 campaign. Whiteaker is responsible for the four highest dig outputs in program history, three of which came during the 2017 season. She posted a program-record 51 digs against Tusculum on Sept. 12, only five days after resetting her own record.
Sixteen of the 21 members of the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Volleyball Team have a spotless 4.00 GPA, including all seven student-athletes honored as first team selections. The only repeat pick on the 2017 squad is California Baptist University senior outside hitter Lauren Hackett. For the second year in a row, Hackett is a second team choice.
Hackett is one of eight members of the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Volleyball Team who helped her club make the NCAA Division II playoffs this year. Anderson (S.C.) University sophomore setter Emily Conlin is the only first team member who led her team to the NCAA tournament. Five of the seven second team members made the NCAA dance, while two third team honorees made the post-season as well.
