GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone Assistant Athletic Director of External Relations/Communications, Aaron Sagraves has been named the 2017 Clarence "Ike" Pearson Award winner. This award is given annually to a member of the NAIA Sports Information Directors Association (NAIA-SIDA) to honor outstanding contributions to the profession. Sagraves, who recently just became the new president of NAIA-SIDA, will be presented with the award at the NAIA-SIDA Convention, held in conjunction with NACDA and CoSIDA Convention in June, 2018 in Washington, D.C.

Sagraves is in his fourth year as Assistant AD of Communications at Cornerstone University, after spending seven years in the same role at Davenport University. Sagraves has earned a multitude of awards over the years in the field, including the 2015-16 CoSIDA Rising Star Award, Sports Information AVCA Grant Burger Media Award, and 2008-09 WHAC SID of the Year.

Some of those who work closely with Sagraves had this to say about him and his accomplishment:

Cornerstone University Athletic Director Chip Huber stated, "Aaron is one of the most dedicated and passionate professionals I have ever worked with, and his work as our Sports Information Director at Cornerstone University has made a huge difference in the flourishing of our athletic department and overall campus life. His tireless energy for our teams and investment in so many students who work alongside him has helped us to be successful in competition and for our athletes to have their stories told in compelling and meaningful ways. More than anything, I love his spirit and desire to maximize the gifts God has given him and the way that makes all of us long to be better in the work we do and the lives we influence as an athletic community at Cornerstone. "

Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Commissioner Rob Miller stated, "This honor for Aaron is so well deserved. Aaron is always willing to volunteer his time and talents at the conference and national levels. His service to both the WHAC and NAIA is being recognized by his peers, and this honor is a clear indication of the impact he has had."

The Clarence "Ike" Pearson Award has been handed out annually since 1977. The award is named after the former statistical crew chief of the NAIA men's basketball national championship in Kansas City, Mo. (Clarence "Ike" Pearson). To win the award, the nominee must be an NAIA-SIDA member for at least five years, while demonstrating outstanding performance and service at the conference, sectional/district/regional, and national levels.
