Three days shy of his 90th birthday, CoSIDA Hall of Famer
Pat Quinn, the former long-time Oklahoma State sports information director, passed away on Nov. 10. Quinn served at his alma mater as SID from 1968-84 and spent a total of three decades in the OSU athletic department (1957-1987). He was a 1977 selection into CoSIDA's Hall of Fame, in the hall's ninth year of existence. The Quinn-led OSU sports information department in the early 1980s was one of the country's first to incorporate computers to transmit information electronically to newspapers and wire services.

Long-Time Oklahoma State SID Pat Quinn Passes Away

STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State sports information director Pat Quinn passed away last Saturday at the age of 89, three days shy of his 90
th birthday.
Quinn spent three decades in the OSU athletic department from 1957-1987, including serving as the school's sports information director from 1968-84.
A native of Wellington, Kan., Quinn was a 1946 graduate of Wellington High School, where he was a member of the state championship golf team. Following high school, he served two years in the United States Navy before attending Wichita University.
After graduating from WU, Quinn remained at the school and spent six years as his alma mater's sports information director.
In 1957, Oklahoma State sports information director Otis Wile hired Quinn as an assistant, and he was promoted to Wile's position upon his retirement in 1968. Quinn spent his final two years at OSU as an administrative assistant to the athletic department in charge of publicizing Cowboy football and golf.
A member of the College Sports Information Directors Association Hall of Fame Class of 1977, Quinn led OSU to becoming one of the country's first sports information departments to incorporate computers to transmit information electronically to newspapers and wire services in the early 1980s.
Following his time at OSU, Quinn spent a number of years covering area prep sports and writing local golf columns for the Stillwater NewsPress.
A celebration of Quinn's life will be held Sunday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Highland Park Methodist Church in Stillwater.
