Mississippi College Mourns the Passing of Former SID Norman Gough

Norman Gough received the CoSIDA Bob Kenworthy Community Service Award in 1997 and was awarded a CoSIDA Lifetime Achievement Award also in 1997.

CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College is saddened to report the death of former Sports Information Director Norman Gough, who passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

"Norman is the standard by which all Mississippi College SID's will be measured," said Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications, David Nichols. "The work ethic he displayed in his 34 years at MC is the stuff of legend, and it's what I strive for in this position. He left an unbelievable legacy at Mississippi College."

Gough was born in Vicksburg on June 9, 1933 and graduated from Carr Central High School in 1951. After graduation from Mississippi College in 1954, he put a full scholarship to Tulane University School of Law on hold to instead volunteer for service in the U.S. Army to fulfill his military obligation to his country. He later joined the administrative staff at Mississippi College where he was the Director of Public Relations and Sports Information Director in 1961. He retired from MC in 1995 after 34 years of service.

Gough was a member of CoSIDA, CASE, Baptist Public Relations Association, College Public Association of Mississippi and was a past president of the Public Relations Association Mississippi Central Chapter. He was named "Practitioner of the Year" by PRAM in 1983.

He is survived by his wife, Marleen, and three children, Norman Henry Gough, Jr., Karen Gough Sullivan and Janice Gough Baddley. He is also survived by his brother, Kerry Gough and six grandchildren.

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC is recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
