Corey Miggins, Chicago State's Beloved Sports Information Director, Passes Away

Corey Miggins, Chicago State University's beloved Sports Information Director, passed away suddenly Sunday, January 6, 2019, in Chicago, IL. He was 40 years old.

"Corey was a tireless worker and an integral part of the success of our team, he will be missed" said Athletics Director Chris Zorich.  "I join President Scott and the entire athletics department in extending our sincerest condolences to his family and friends."
 
"We are completely surprise and shaken," CSU Associate Athletic Director Brandon Reeves said. "To say we are grief-stricken is an understatement. Corey was a beloved member of the CSU Athletics and Community whose hard work was treasured by colleagues and student-athletes. I knew him personally and liked him tremendously. The void left by his passing will be immense, and we ask that you keep his family in your prayers."
 
A Chicago native, Corey received his bachelor's degree in communications from Illinois College in 2003 and launched his sports information career having completed internships with Michigan State, Loyola University Chicago and Chicago State. He then spent two seasons as an assistant sports information director at Southeast Missouri State University. At SEMO he was the media contact for women's volleyball, women's soccer, women's basketball and softball teams in addition to supervising the department's student workers and updating the athletics website.

Starting his first stint at Chicago State in 2008-2012, Corey served as the Sports Information Director where he managed media relations efforts for the athletics department.  He then took a pause in his Chicago State career, where he served as the Online Data Specialist for City Colleges of Chicago from 2013-2015.

During his second stint at CSU in 2016, Corey revitalized the position as the Sports Information Director where his passion for CSU Athletics was felt not only locally, but nationwide.

He was also an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The recipient of a 2018 CoSIDA Ethnic Minority Convention Attendance Grant, Corey attended was able to attend his first convention in Washington D.C.

Corey is survived by wife Alberta Price Miggins and stepson Malik Price.

Chicago State University will be hosting a Special Tribute to honor of Corey Thursday, January 10th at 6pm in The Emil and Patricia A. Jones Convocation Center, 9501 S. King Dr. Chicago, IL 60628.
A visitation/viewing will be held on Saturday, January 12th from 3:30pm- 7pm at Gatling's Chapel, 10133 S. Halsted Street Chicago, IL 60628.
Corey's Celebration of Life- Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 13th from 1pm - 4pm at T'Mari' Exquisite Event Venue, 2701 W. 87th Street Evergreen Park, IL 60805.
 
Corey was a kind hearted and passionate person who will truly be missed.
