To All Our CoSIDA Members,

For the 2020 June Convention at Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, the CoSIDA Board of Directors has approved the CoSIDA registration cost at $350 for the early-bird dates and $395 for the remainder of online preregistration period. On-site registration will be $495.

Registration for the 2020 CoSIDA convention opens Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Noon Eastern.

The Board recently reviewed convention revenue and expense data over the past seven years. (Any change in what CoSIDA charges to register for its annual convention must be approved by the organization’s 16-person Board of Directors.) Our goal was to keep our convention as affordable as possible, maintain the quality that our members expect, and also deal with the financial impact that every organization faces when running a convention in any city on any property: the rising costs of hotel food and beverage, audio-visual, setup charges, security, etc.

  • We remain committed to offer comprehensive, high-quality and diverse programming during the four-day convention experience to meet the needs of our members, whether they are new to the profession or an experienced professional.
  • Our convention registration value (the $350 early bird rate and $395 regular online registration rate) remains one of the best, if not the best, in college athletics. We also looked at what other NACDA affiliates charge and identified five that showed 2019 convention registration rates at $425 or more.
  • There is an added value to the 2020 Convention with a Sunday evening concert featuring a nationally-recognized performer or group for all NACDA and Affiliates and CoSIDA attendees. This June, for the first time, all NACDA affiliate groups and CoSIDA will be meeting on the same dates (Sunday-Wednesday June 7-10) at Mandalay Bay, and the addition of the Sunday night concert will launch the 2020 convention for all attendees.
  • We invite our CoSIDA members to apply for one of our 22 Convention Grants to help defray the cost of attendance. Grant applications will open in early December. Each grant includes reimbursement of up to $1,000 in expenses related to travel, lodging and meals in addition to a complimentary convention registration.

Here is what we learned in looking over our convention cost history:

9392

Overall, the bottom-line expense for the 2019 convention was $556,826 while the revenue bottom line came in at $286,669 (deficit of $270,157). The 2020 convention registration rate will make a meaningful reduction in that revenue versus cost difference.

The Board was committed to making this decision early in the year for everyone's budget planning purposes. We hope this helps you better understand the process and the factors that influenced our 2020 Convention registration decisions.

Sincerely,

Herb Vincent, Southeastern Conference Associate Commissioner/Communications
2019-20 CoSIDA President
