Black College Nines Announces HBCU Baseball Posts Season Individual Awards


Three CoSIDA members have been named 2018-19 Sports Information Directors of the Year by Black College Nines, a baseball news website dedicated to promoting Historically Black College and Universities baseball and preserving its legacy. Black College Nines announced its postseason honors on May 23.

Robbie Kleinmuntz, Alcorn State University Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information, Claflin University Sports Information Director Romanda Noble-Watson and Matt Wurzburger, Norfolk State University Sports Information Assistant, were recognized by Black College Nines in their annual postseason awards.

The Black College Nines Sports Information Directors of the Year falls under the Special Service Award Category of the post-season honors. The Special Service Awards were announced along with the 2019 Black College Nine’ Elite Teams where 57 HBCU baseball players were recognizewds along with selections for Player, Pitcher, Freshman and Coach of the Year honors as well as a Sportsmanship honor.

Kleinmuntz has worked at Alcorn since July 2016. Hired as director of sports information, he was promoted to Assistant AD in March 2018. Kleinmuntz came to Alcorn after spending three years as Assistant Director of Media Relations at the University of Louisiana Monroe. He also has earned honors for his work in women’s soccer. In 2015-16, Kleinmuntz won first-place in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Women's Soccer Media Guide of the Year category. That publiciation also earned a second-place national honor in the CoSIDA Women's Soccer Media Guide of the Year category.

Noble-Watson, in her fifth year as the sports publicist at Claflin, received the Black College Nines' honor in the small-school category. At Claflin, Noble-Watson, is responsible for coordinating media relations efforts for Claflin's 11 athletic programs and the department. In addition to her duties at Claflin, she is the secretary of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Sports Information Directors Association, is a member of the media coordination team for the NCAA Division I Women's College World Series and serves on both the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Regional Committee (Region III) and on the NCAA Stats Advisory Board for volleyball.

Wurzburger has served at Norfolk State since July of 2017 and has been the primary media relations contact for women’s basketball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis in addition to baseball. A member of the Virginia Sport Information Directors organization, Wurzburger previously was the sports information intern at Lindsey Wilson College for two years.
