Vincent To Lead Governance Review
Additional New Priorities Established by the Board of Directors
by Doug Vance – CoSIDA Executive Director

The framework of CoSIDA’s current board of directors’ governance structure, which is much the same as it looked during its infant years of development, is set for a complete review process during the upcoming year.
CoSIDA President Herb Vincent will chair a diverse working group that is charged with analyzing all aspects of the organization’s system of governing and making a determination if the current board of directors’ model is the most effective leadership approach for the future.
“We have a responsibility to ensure that all our current practices and policies are reviewed from time to time and that they are the most effective methods to achieve our goals,” said Vincent, who was installed as CoSIDA’s 65th president during the 2019 convention.
“We’ve been discussing this as a board in recent months and feel our overall governance structure should be subject to the same review process we undertake with other aspects of our organization. We want to take an open-minded look to see if our current model is our best option or if there might be a more effective method to successfully guide the organization’s leadership approach.”
The governance review working group includes representation from all corners of the CoSIDA membership. Those serving are:
- Herb Vincent (SEC), Chair – CoSIDA President
- Mary Beth Challoner (Toronto) – CDMAC Vice Chair
- Tyler Cundith (Johnson County Community College) – Former CoSIDA board member and 2YSIDA president
- Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) – Secretary, CoSIDA Board of Directors
- John Kean (Missouri S&T) – CoSIDA Board of Directors College Division Representative and former DII-SIDA chair
- Pete Moore (Syracuse) – CoSIDA Past President
- Jessica Poole (Florida Atlantic) – CoSIDA Third Vice President
- Cindy Potter (Columbia College) – CoSIDA Second Vice President and former NAIA-SIDA chair
- Lenny Reich (Mount Union) – CoSIDA Board of Directors At-Large Representative and former DIII-SIDA Chair
- Jay Stancil (Union (Ky.)) – Former CoSIDA Board of Directors College Division Representative and former NAIA-SIDA Chair
- Doug Vance – CoSIDA Executive Director

“The profession and our organization have undergone many changes over time, especially in recent years and we would be remiss if we did not recognize and respond to those developments,” Vincent added. “We cannot take for granted that our current process for governance is the best it can be. Plus, in recent years we’ve seen an increase in members looking for leadership involvement so it’s important to see if we can open the door for expanding those opportunities.”
Vincent indicated he expected the review process to take most of the upcoming year with a goal of bringing a recommendation forward prior to the 2020 CoSIDA Convention.
