As many of you know, for the past two years we have partnered with PSP Sports, the Associated Press, the Fiesta Bowl and the Mayo Clinic to present the
Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award. Through this program we have recognized 60 inspiring college football student-athletes for all levels and shared their remarkable comeback stories. If you have not been exposed to the program previously, you can learn more at

Due to the many changes in college sports this year, our partners (PSP Sports) are making some changes to the program so we can continue to recognize remarkable comeback stories but in a way that is respectful of the current college football landscape. As opposed to honoring 30 student-athletes throughout the season, we are adjusting the program to be similar to many other awards program by issuing “Watch Lists” several times during the season before naming the winners in late December. Additionally, this year the award will only honor NCAA Division 1 student-athletes.
Although they did substantial research heading into this season to identify potential candidates, they’ve asked CoSIDA to seek your assistance to select the best football student-athlete for the initial “Watch List” which is planned to be issued on/around November 1. To qualify as a Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year candidate, the student-athlete should have suffered some type of injury or illness during the 2019 college football season or missed the entire season due to an injury or illness.

email the name of your eligible candidates to CFBComebackPOY@gmail.com by Friday, October 30. Feel free to nominate multiple candidates. If you have background information about them, feel free to include, but it is not required as our panel will research the candidates.
