Bracing For Impact: Strategies For Supporting & Hosting Events in Winter and Spring 2021 (NCAA Division I Members)
Original Date: Tuesday, November 17

Division I college athletic leaders from athletic communications, facilities/event management, student wellness/athletic training and marketing/development discussed strategies and thoughts to help colleagues through all the challenges and changes brought on by the COVID pandemic, as we brace for heavy scheduling of competitions and events heading into 2021 and the spring semester.

The discussion centered around ideas to:
  • manage the upcoming, unprecedented spring semester where: 1.) some schools and conferences will play fall-winter-spring competitions or 2.) Hold winter-spring sport competitions while continuing to deal with COVID-19 implications and challenges.
  • work effectively with student-athletes, prioritizing event and game operations, review of important safety measures, juggling schedules and staff, communicating and messaging fans/alumni/parents and helping them stay connected and engaged when social distancing is required
  • how to deal with COVID-19 potential outbreaks of staffers and student-athletes
  • managing expectations of supervisors, coaches and student-athletes, external stakeholders
