CoSIDA To Offer Virtual Convention In Wake of 2020 Convention in Las Vegas Canceled Due To COVID-19

#CoSIDA2020 Convention Message

April 10, 2020:

The convention was scheduled for June 7-10 at Mandalay Bay Resort and Conference Center in Las Vegas. Refunds for pre-registrants will be forthcoming. CoSIDA staff and leadership will now focus on hosting virtual convention/professional development programming in June.

Austin— As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds and in our unprecedented situation, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) organization, in conjunction with NACDA, announced today that the 2020 CoSIDA Convention scheduled for June 7-10 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Conference Center in Las Vegas has been canceled.

The CoSIDA Convention, which includes the general convention, the SIDEARM Sports Leadership Forum presented by IMG College, and a CoSIDA U Camp, is held in conjunction with NACDA and Affiliates Convention Week. The NACDA convention also has been canceled.

"In concert with our partner NACDA and its affiliate organizations, it has been determined that we are canceling CoSIDA's in-person convention for 2020,” stated Doug Vance, CoSIDA Executive Director. “The health and well-being of the college athletics communications community, including our members, corporate partners, vendors, invited speakers and colleagues in college athletics weighed most heavily in our decision; however, the unsettled environment our members find themselves in also played a major role in the decision.

“Universities across the country and Canada are facing a host of challenging decisions that must be planned for in the near future. We will miss our opportunity to network with members and honor award winners, but those connections will be celebrated even more so in 2021 in Orlando. The CoSIDA staff has been planning for all possible scenarios and we will communicate with members in the near future about our plans to hold a virtual convention in early June."

CoSIDA will provide more details on any virtual professional development in the coming weeks. As well, the CoSIDA staff, in partnership with the Board of Directors and divisional leaders, are developing plans to carry out the important business of the association, such as board meetings, business meeting, State of the Association session, committee meetings, Board nominations and divisional day programming.

“The annual CoSIDA Convention is a wonderful opportunity to advance our profession, enhance our knowledge and, perhaps most importantly, strengthen special relationships, so it is with great regret that we must cancel this summer’s convention,” stated Herb Vincent, Southeastern Conference Associate Commissioner and 2019-20 CoSIDA President. “This current reality has caused all of us to be imaginative and adapt new ways to perform our daily responsibilities, and similarly we will work to bring elements of the CoSIDA Convention to our membership through alternate and creative methods. We wish everyone in our profession, and their families, safety and health during these uncertain times.”

2020-21 Membership Dues Message from the Board of Directors

Each spring, the CoSIDA leadership team reviews its budget and evaluates the benefits, resources and professional development programming offered to our diverse membership, to provide insight and guidance with respect to our financial needs to maintain operations. We offer numerous levels and categories for annual membership (individual membership, group membership, associate membership, student membership). In light of the current CoVID-19 pandemic environment and with the financial health of our association in mind, the CoSIDA Board of Directors is reviewing our membership dues structure for 2020-21.

Any consideration of 2020-21 membership dues will take into account our ability as an organization to maintain the same quality of service to our membership throughout the upcoming year. We will provide details at a later date following careful deliberation and appraisal of these member benefits and resources.
