The Experience of Working From Home: Strategies & Tips to Help Make Remote Work Successful
Original Date: March 31, 2020
The CoSIDA staff, all experienced at working virtually as we all work out of our home offices, were the presenters in this discussion on working remotely during this COVID-19 crisis. (If you didn’t know, our staff has always worked remotely and is now on four different time zones!)
In our conversations with CoSIDA members and colleagues during the COVID-19 pandemic and these challenging times, we heard how difficult the adjustment can be to work at home, especially with family or roommates being sequestered together.
We offered handouts and graphics and answered questions as the discussion covered:
- Numerous tips and strategies as “home-office professionals” to help you stay productive, effective, communicate with others, and maintain balance.
- Personal needs: The importance of establishing routines, establishing a rhythm for yourself and prepping yourself for a day in the home office, whether you are alone at home or with others
- Ideas to do effective team building with colleagues, coaches and student-athletes when you are not together. Point was emphasized that having a virtual office and communicating with your staff members and colleagues can be problematic if the time is not well managed.
- How to lead your department/staff as a remote supervisor
- Improve communication and engagement with your colleagues and your collaboration by using specific tools and software
- How to effectively work from home with your family members present
