The multi-award winning
Larry Dougherty is in his 18th year at Temple University, serving as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications for the last decade. In 2010-11, Dougherty led CoSIDA as the organization’s president.
Dougherty was inducted into CoSIDA’s Hall of Fame in 2015. Among other honors, he earned two of ECAC-SIDA’s top awards: the 2011 Irving T. Marsh Award for outstanding contributions to athletic communications and the Pete Nevins Award for Distinguished Service in 2017. An advocate of community and civic service, Dougherty was recognized with CoSIDA's Bob Kenworthy Community Service Award, also in 2017.
Prior to time at Temple, Dougherty served at his alma mater Saint Joseph’s (Pa.) for 15 years, and also was at Nicholls State and the East Coast Conference. He is part of a father-son SID duo at Saint Joseph’s, as his late father, Andy, also served as the SID at SJU from 1972-81.
In this Recognition Week video, Dougherty talks about the family SID legacy, the importance of giving back and why he is a blood platelet donor, and offers his perspective on the on-going changes and growth in athletic communications and in CoSIDA.
Dougherty has long-time service in CoSIDA, serving on the Board of Directors and numerous committees. He was CoSIDA President in 2010-11 and currently is part of the new Past Presidents Council.
Two CoSIDA Hall of Famers: Dougherty, inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013, with long-time mentor the late Al Shrier, a 1995 inductee. Shrier was an award-winning legendary figure at Temple, serving in athletics for over 60 years.
