The Best of CoSIDA 2021
CoSIDA is as strong as ever. We all know about the tough times in which we're living and we’re collectively doing everything we can to meet our challenges head on. In 2021, as a profession and a national association we adapted, pivoted, changed, grown and — most importantly — we stuck together.
In the spirit of all those popular year-in-review lists, here’s a look at the best of CoSIDA from 2021.
Top 10 CoSIDA national association storylines
- We’re bouncing back! With 2,997 current members as of Dec. 31, we’re on track to get back to 3,000+ members. CoSIDA peaked at 3,255 members pre-Covid 19 pandemic and dropped to 2,582 during 2020-21.
- Going All In. A new membership dues model was approved and will be implemented in August 2022 to allow unlimited memberships for institutions at a low rate. We want to be inclusive for EVERYONE involved in communications and creative.
- Introduction of the Attendee Hub for enhanced professional development. A new Attendee Hub platform was implemented for the #CoSIDA21 virtual convention and year round programming to provide an enhanced user experience for members.
- We’ll see you in Vegas! Planning for our first in-person convention in three years is underway. Registration and hotel room rates are already listed at CoSIDA.com/2022convention.
- Reinventing our organization for the future. The next step in our advocacy for our members includes our comprehensive strategic branding review process which kicked off in the Fall of 2021. Our goal to be a more inclusive organization may lead to a name and/or logo change. Surveys were distributed to over 6,500 members, non-members, creative professionals, athletics directors, senior administrators and other stakeholders.
- Debut of Leadership CoSIDA. A new premium year-around educational event designed to enhance leadership skills
- Telling your story. CoSIDA 360 is now delivered monthly in a digital format.
- Investing in career services. Our new, modern, career center is more user friendly, more feature rich, offers the opportunity to package postings, and adds enhanced privacy and exposure for job seekers.
- Diversity in leadership. CoSIDA has enjoyed an unprecedented level of diversity in its top leadership positions in recent years. In 2021, for the first time in history, CoSIDA passed the gavel between two college division presidents when Sam Atkinson (Gallaudet, NCAA Division III) handed it off to Cindy Potter (Columbia College (Mo.), NAIA). Potter became the first president to represent an NAIA institution. The table is set for her to pass the gavel Jessica Poole (Chicago State, NCAA Division I), who will become the first Black woman to serve in the role. Potter and Poole will also represent the first women to hold the office in consecutive years.
- Celebrating our best. In 2021, CoSIDA honored two special awards classes, crowned winners in the publications & digital design contest and Fred Stabley Sr. writing contest, created the new ChangeMaker Innovation award, delivered on the Academic All-America® program on a drastically adjusted schedule and promoted the stories of the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award winners.
