Navigating a bilingual institution as an SID
Spencer Murdock navigates a bilingual school and city at the University of Ottawa

by Will Roleson – College Sports Communicators, Associate Executive Director  @wroleson

In his role as sports information officer at the University of Ottawa in Canada’s capital city, Spencer Murdock oversees communications efforts for the Gee-Gees varsity sports teams.

What makes his situation unique is that he navigates an athletics program, a university and a city that requires knowing and using both English and French on a daily basis. The University of Ottawa is Canada’s largest bilingual university, with class instruction available in both languages.

That bilingual aspect carries over into athletics communications which produces content in both languages and has mirror-image athletics websites for English and French fans.

In this video interview with CSC Associate Executive Director Will Roleson, Spencer talks about the uniqueness of working at a bilingual institution and how it impacts his daily communications efforts.
