The Joy of Sports Communications: What We Love About CSC And Our Work
Hosted by the College Sports Communicators U Committee
Original air date: Wednesday, Dec. 14
This College Sports Communicators (CSC) webinar and podcast is from the Dec. 14, 2022 CSC U Committee series and focused on The Joy of Sports Communications: What We Love About CSC And Our Work. The audience was comprised of new college athletic communications and creative professionals and graduate assistants, graduate and undergraduate interns and student. The CSC U professional development series is focused on issues and education for young and aspiring sports communicators. The series is presented by Capital One.
It was hosted by the CSC U Committee, which works on recruiting students and young professionals to our industry.
Four young CSC members — including two who just earned CSC 30-Under-30 awards — had a great discussion on the “why’s” of being a sports communicator! We want to talk about the things in our profession which ignite our passion and enthusiasm, and ways we’ve found to meet some of the challenges in the job.
The session is geared toward new sports communications professionals (those with 0-3 years of experience) and those interested in the profession (student assistants, student interns, graduate assistants, those from other industries).
- Topics and questions discussed
- What do we love about athletic communications, and the "how" and "why" we got started in this field?
- How College Sports Communicators has re-branded (re-named from College Sports Information Directors of America, CoSIDA) and expanded our membership to include everyone working as content creators in college athletics - athletic media relations directors, assistant directors; social media managers, digital content creators, graphic designers, videographers for the entire department, conference and/or for specific teams; athletic administrators; graduate and undergraduate student interns and assistants; and others with a vested interest in sports communications.
- How do we set boundaries early and have work/life integration with this demanding position?
- As we look to welcome new sports communicators to the profession, how can we deal with some of the more difficult challenges (long hours, stretched staff, multiple roles and responsibilities) in our industry?
- Open Q&A (Ask us anything!)
