A legend in our profession, Lawrence Fan was a trailblazer and earned every major CoSIDA honor and recognition. Lawrence was inducted into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame in 2012, and has also been recognized by CoSIDA with the 25-Year Award (2005), Arch Ward Award (2012), Mary Jo Haverbeck Trailblazer Award (2013) and President's Award (2017, for his work on the Job Seekers Committee). He served on the CoSIDA Board of Directors from 2006-2009 as an At-Large Representative.
His current role at San Jose State University was as
Associate Athletics Director for Football Communications & Special Projects.
Many remember Lawrence for his long service as the chair of the CoSIDA Job Seekers Committee from 1994-2017, as well as his countless other volunteer leadership roles. He was a founding and current member of CoSIDA's Diversity & Inclusion Committee. A friend to hundreds in intercollegiate athletes and the media, he was a compassionate mentor for athletic communications professionals for decades.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Longtime San José State media relations Hall of Famer
Lawrence Fan passed away late Monday night, announced by Director of Athletics
Jeff Konya on Wednesday. Fan spent the last 42 years helping promote SJSU Athletics and thousands of Spartan student-athletes, and for all of his accomplishments he was elected to the CoSIDA Hall of Fame in 2012.
"We are in the process of dealing with this sad news in real time," said Konya. "Lawrence was a Hall of Famer in life and work. The entire SJSU community is shocked from this news and we send the Fan family, all of our current and former student-athletes, staff and coaches, as well as his extended media family our condolences."
