#CoSIDA22 Sights & Sounds from Day 1 in Las Vegas

Return to 2022 Convention Home Page

After almost an 1100-day absence since the last time people gathered publicly at a CoSIDA Convention, the 2022 in-person event officially kicked off on Sunday, June 26 at Mandalay Bay Resort and Convention Center in Las Vegas. As the convention continues, it’s expected that over 800 will attend #CoSIDA22 – a remarkable tribute to the importance of education, networking and re-connecting as professionals following the pandemic.

Sunday saw hundreds and hundreds register and enjoy fellowship and friendship as people re-connected after the long absence of missing two years of in-person convention postponement due to COVID. The day consisted of committee meetings and professional development programming focused on building stronger relationships with coaches; and an Athletic Directors Roundtable with real-talk and topics such as building your value in your department, staffing issues/salaries/budgets, attrition to college athletics (particularly in athletic communications), how to say no and prioritize, with questions flowing from the audience for Desiree Reed-Francois (Missouri), Ryan Ivey (Stephen F. Austin) and Vaughn Williams (Bentley University). This was followed by a real-talk, free-flowing “Do I Know You?

Conversations on Inclusion and Implicit Bias” session on DEI and the role communicators can play in fostering an environment of inclusion. People then visited with the presenters in breakout sessions on LGBTQ+, accessibility, the black experience in college athletics, and women’s rights and issues.

Following a session on optimizing your social media content and building a content approach, there were numerous small-group sessions on statistics tips and streamlining stats entry and training in NCAA LiveStats.

The networking continued with two home-run social events – the annual CoSIDA kickoff social and welcome in the exhibit hall, and a high energy, packed CoSIDA-Women Leaders in College Sports reception.
