Past 25-Year Award Recipients
Dave Reed – Colorado College, Athletic Communications Associate Director
CoSIDA 25-Year Award
by Jack Neumann – retired, University of Calgary / Special Awards Committee
Dave Reed’s name is syonomous with college athletics not only at Colorado College but throughout the state of Colorado and the entire profession of College of Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) professionals.
Reed joined the Athletic Department at Colorado College 25 years ago. Prior to working at Colorado College, Reed worked in athletic media relations at the University of Dayton (1989–91), The Ohio State University (1992–93) and the University of Notre Dame (1993–96). He has served as media coordinator for several Big East, Midwestern Collegiate Conference and NCAA Division III Championships.
Dave has not only served his school with class and dignity, he also served CoSIDA in the same manner. He has been an active member of the CoSIDA Special Awards Committee, has served on the Membership and Programming Committees, and was a College Division Representative on the CoSIDA Board for three years.

While Reed does not believe that honors and awards are the true measuring stick of a person’s success in the profession, he does acknowledge that becoming the first associate or assistant to receive CoSIDA’s Warren Berg Award last year was especially meaningful.
"It was an incredible honor to have my name added to the list of Warren Berg Award recipients in 2021," Reed said. “To be mentioned in the same breath as many of the legends of our profession is quite humbling.
Dave has also been honored by organizations outside of CoSIDA. Reed was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as recipient of its prestigious Grant Burger Media Award for the 2009- 2010 academic year in recognition of his work as CC's volleyball contact and as a national NCAA Division I volleyball columnist for ESPN.com.
As a life-long fan of Ohio State and Notre Dame football, Reed’s first two stops on his professional journey fulfilled career dreams. But it was the personal relationships he made there and at the University of Dayton that shifted his trajectory toward Olympic Sports.
"I've was extremely fortunate to start my career under CoSIDA Hall of Famers Doug Hauschild at the University of Dayton, and John Heisler at the University of Notre Dame,” Reed said. “Doug hired me as a student and his relationship with John helped open the door at Notre Dame.
“I also was lucky to learn volleyball stats from the late and great DC Koehl at Ohio State, and the nuances of the game from Norte Dame Head Coach Debbie Brown. Volleyball became a passion, as did hockey and then lacrosse after I arrived at Colorado College.”
In 2017 Reed was the recipient of
CoSIDA's annual college division Achievement Award, which recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the field of sports information in their role as an associate or assistant director.
“I tried to demonstrate that one does not have to be the lead person at a Power Five institution to have a successful career,” Reed said. “Lasting 25 years in athletics communications is something I am proud of. As the demands and responsibilities of our profession change, one has to be adaptable, and that was the key to my success and longevity.”
Well known Colorado College alum, Doug Mitchell, who was the keynote speaker at the 2004 Workshop has the utmost of respect for Reed.
"Dave Reed is the epitome of a class act, always well informed and knowledgeable and keeps up to date on what is happening in the sports world. Dave at all times emulates honesty and integrity and an ability to work with others,” noted Mitchell, who was enshrined in CC’s Hall of Fame in 2017. “He is amongst the best in his profession and represents Colorado College in a distinguished and professional manner.”
