On the final day of August (Aug. 31), CoSIDA members will be asked to participate in a historic vote to accept a new name for the national association.
The proposed new name —
College Sports Communicators — has been recommended by the strategic branding working group and the CoSIDA Executive Board of Directors. Following the implementation of the All-In membership model to include all communicators and creatives in college athletics, the new name is the next step in the organization’s strategic rebranding to become a more inclusive organization.
Members should be aware that the vote is only for the new name of the association. Work on new branding and logos will begin upon approval of the new name. Membership voting for such organizational changes is outlined in the CoSIDA constitution.
This new organizational name was initially relayed to the membership during the
2022 CoSIDA Convention’s Name, Image and Membership session on June 27, where key stakeholders from the strategic branding working group addressed members in attendance and those watching online.
A membership-wide vote on the proposed new name will take place Wednesday, Aug. 31 via an electronic form emailed directly to all dues-paying 2021-22 and 2022-23 CoSIDA members. The vote will mark a historic moment for CoSIDA, which has existed in its current name since 1957.
Prior to the Aug. 31st vote, CoSIDA members are invited to attend an open informational Q&A forum with CoSIDA leaders on hand to discuss the branding initiative and all the steps taken to date. That will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 2 PM (Eastern).
All CoSIDA members from 2021-22 and those who have purchased memberships to date for the 2022-23 academic year will be invited to participate in the Aug 24th webinar and the Aug. 31st vote.
“During this pivotal period in our organization, it’s time for us to take the next step in our strategic branding initiative, which is a membership vote. It’s critically important that each member has the opportunity to have their voice heard as we vote on our recommended new name,” stated 2022-23 CoSIDA President
Jessica Poole, Chicago State Interim Director of Athletics. “I encourage everyone to take time to cast their online vote on Wednesday, Aug. 31, as we take an important and historic next step in the future of our organization.
“As we move toward the membership vote, I also encourage all members to tune into our informational webinar on Wednesday, August 24,” noted Poole. “We will detail the steps taken by our strategic branding working group to get us to where we are today. We welcome all your questions during this Q&A forum as we move towards the membership vote.”

For the Aug. 31 vote, the link to the electronic form will be announced at a later date and communicated via email and on CoSIDA.com.
Throughout the branding identity process, which began in late 2021, the CoSIDA membership has been
continually informed and offered opportunities to voice their opinions and ask questions. This has been accomplished through webinars, communications via emails and stories on CoSIDA.com, and work with the respective CoSIDA divisional leadership cabinets.
“As our organization continues to experience significant growth and influence within collegiate athletics, the upcoming member voting on the new name for CoSIDA takes on added significance,” said
Erik Christianson, CoSIDA Executive Director. “Our new name will position the association, and our organization’s members, for further growth and development. There has been a dedicated and thorough examination of CoSIDA’s brand identity throughout our 2021-22 branding initiative process. At every step, we’ve had member involvement. We look forward to our members’ participation and questions once again during our August 24 webinar and forum, and hope that each member will take time to vote online for the proposed new name change — College Sports Communicators — at month’s end.”
