From the Desk of President John Paquette – See and be seen

by John Paquette – 2023-24 College Sports Communicators President  @wjpaquette
BIG EAST Conference, Senior Associate Commissioner, Sports Media Relations

A year can go by so fast.

And so it’s been for me in 2023-24 when I have had the privilege to serve as your CSC President. My term comes to an end at #CSCUnite24 when we get together in Las Vegas and I hand the gavel to the incredibly capable incoming President Kevin Trainor of Arkansas.

Here are what I believe are a few highlights from the past year.

The growth and acceptance of the CSC name and the branding continues on a strong pace. More and more people outside of our communications world now recognize College Sports Communicators and CSC. It will still take some more time to get full acceptance, but we’re getting there. One avenue toward this goal has been for the Executive Board and staff to get out and represent CSC at national events, including the CALS conference in Charlotte, the NCAA Inclusion Forum in Indianapolis, the SBJ Forum in Las Vegas, and others.

Ninety percent of success in life is showing up, right?! I have always been a big believer in being present and being seen.

We have had success in making the size of the Academic All-America ballots more manageable. We’d still like a little more voting participation. The Academic All-American Team belongs to us. Please support it.

One of our projects this spring has been to streamline the different membership classifications. With our inclusive All-In Membership program, we have more people than ever who may not be in the traditional athletic communications roles. We want to be clear as to who can be a member and who can serve on a committee or CSC Board.

But more on that later. We have a great turnout headed for Las Vegas and some terrific programming. See you there.

John
