Lifetime Achievement Award

Doug Hauschild — University of Dayton Director of Media Relations/Sports Information (retired)

“It goes without saying that this is a wonderful honor, but it's even more humbling to now be mentioned with all the others who have previously been named Lifetime Achievement Award winners. These are the people who made CoSIDA, and now CSC, great.” — Doug Hauschild, 2026 CSC Lifetime Achievement Award recipient

Doug Hauschild retired from the University of Dayton as a full-time employee in July after nearly 47 years working in the UD sports information/athletics communications office (43 as a full-time employee). In his time at Dayton, Hauschild was primarily the media contact for Flyer football and men's basketball.

He was inducted into the College Sports Communicators Hall of Fame in 2020. Hauschild was presented the CSC 25-Year Award in 2008 and received the Bob Kenworthy Award for his community service at the 2009 CSC Convention. He has also served on the CSC Academic All-America Committee since 1993 and earned the Lester Jordan Award for service to the Academic All-America program in 2021.

During his 43 years as a full-time sports professional, the Dayton athletics communications office had 61 student workers go on to work in college and professional athletics after graduation. Hauschild has worked 120 NCAA men's basketball tournament games at UD Arena, the last 100 serving as media coordinator.

Inducted into the UD Athletics Hall of Fame last December, Doug continues to work part-time for the Flyers as the athletics historian and director of special projects.

David Worlock, NCAA Director of Media Coordination and Statistics, CSC Hall of Famer/Past Special Awards recipient: “Doug Hauschild has demonstrated sustained excellence in the field of athletics communications. His passion and commitment to the profession and to the University of Dayton is certainly something that should be honored. Among the many notable achievements in his career, his role as a media coordinator for more games of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship than anyone else in March Madness history is selfishly my favorite nugget about Doug.”

Larry Dougherty, Temple University Sr Associate AD (retired), CSC Hall of Famer/Past President/Past Special Awards recipient: “Doug Hauschild is ending a truly amazing career in the sports communications field. He has touched so many lives and helped many in the field including myself. Besides his tremendous promotion of Dayton student-athletes for the last 40-plus years, Doug has served as the media coordinator for countless NCAA and Conference Championships and has been integral in making the University of Dayton Arena the site of the NCAA First Four.”

Tom McCarthy, CBS Sports Play by Play Announcer: “I often think about perfection and how we strive for it in any walk of life. Doug is the closest thing to a perfect Sports Information Director that I have ever met. Before, during or after an event with Doug, you are buttoned up, informed and without question, filled with enough information that you can write a book about the event you are covering. If I could use someone as an example of how to do a job at the highest of levels, it would be Doug.”

Neil Sullivan, University of Dayton Athletic Director: “Doug has had a remarkable career and a legacy of professionalism, dedication, and passion for his craft. Doug has been the cornerstone of our public relations efforts, always going above and beyond to build relationships and elevate our brand and the recognition of our students. He has done it with unwavering grace and expertise over decades. We are thrilled that he is a recipient of this award.”
