25-Year Award
Presented to College Sports Communicators members who have completed 25 years in the athletics communications profession. Vetted and voted on by the Special Awards Committee.

Michael Kobylanski – Albertus Magnus College, Director of Athletics

"I am honored to be a recipient of a CSC 25-Year Award. There is no question that I would not have ascended into an Athletic Director role without the foundation that was set as a longtime Sports Information Director. Whether working with an array of coaches, staff and differing personalities, or troubleshooting and problem-solving on the fly, the groundwork was set in my time as a SID. Furthermore, I am proud to continue to serve CSC as a Mentor. Helping to positively impact the next generation of rising professionals has been a point of emphasis throughout my career. Thank you again to CSC for this honor." Michael Kobylanski, 2026 CSC 25-Year Award recipient

Michael Kobylanski, a recipient of a CSC 25-Year Award, is in his fourth year as Director of Athletics at Albertus Magnus College. He is in his eighth year as an Athletic Director after 17-plus years leading athletic communications efforts at Quinnipiac University and Southern Connecticut State University.

Even in serving as an AD in his last two stops, Kobylanski never remains far from his athletic communications roots. He has continued to serve as a writer, photographer, videographer, broadcaster and even a statistician to help promote the efforts of his teams and student-athletes. Kobylanski’s proudest professional accomplishment is the fact that he has mentored nearly 40 young professionals to various positions across all three NCAA Divisions, the NJCAA, MLB, NHL, and NFL franchises, along with local and regional media outlets.

He is an active member of the College Sports Communicators (CSC) organization and has been recognized for his volunteer work by the organization in each of the last 11 years (2015-25). Kobylanski is a current member of the CSC Mentoring Program. He previously served on the CSC Career Services Committee.

Kobylanski’s tenure at Albertus Magnus has been a success academically, athletically and within the campus and local communities. Specifically, the department has reached new heights with regard to academic performance, recruiting and fundraising metrics. Since joining Albertus Magnus, Kobylanski has become intricately immersed on a variety of fronts. He serves as a member of the College’s Mental Health Coalition and JED Campus Team. Kobylanski also represents the athletic department on the New Student Orientation, Homecoming and Commencement committees, and he previously served on the Retention and Dominican Mission and Ministries Committees.

Outside of Albertus, he has represented the College as Chair of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Men’s Golf Committee as well as the GNAC Women’s Volleyball Committee. Kobylanski is also a member of the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Committee. Kobylanski spent 11-plus years as Associate Director of Athletics at Southern Connecticut State University prior to taking the Athletic Director role at UConn Avery Point. Kobylanski began his career by serving both as Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director at Quinnipiac University for six years. Kobylanski was instrumental in developing key initiatives and elevating the internal and external communications efforts during his time at SCSU. His areas of oversight included media relations, social media, broadcast production, publications, marketing, promotions, community relations, CHAMPS Life Skills, licensing, and corporate sponsorship.

Colleen Murphy, Yale University Assistant Athletic Director, Strategic Communications: “Mike was the first person to give me a real opportunity in this profession. He saw potential in me before I saw it in myself and consistently pushed me to grow, not just as a professional, but as a person. He has been someone I’ve consistently turned to for advice, perspective and encouragement, and he leads with genuine care for the people around him. He consistently goes the extra mile for people because he genuinely cares about their success. Mike’s willingness to do the work alongside others and treat everyone with respect showed me what it means to be a great mentor and an even better person. His impact on my career and life is something I will always be grateful for.”

Samantha Carey, Sacred Heart University Assistant Director of Athletic Communications: “I have known Mike since 2007, when I first became one of his student workers at SCSU. Since then, he has been a wonderful mentor, colleague, and friend. Mike consistently goes above and beyond to showcase student-athletes’ hard work and dedication, always ensuring their achievements are represented thoughtfully and professionally. He is supportive, reliable, and deeply committed to his work, and his passion for athletic communications is evident in everything he does. Working alongside him has truly been a pleasure, and his contributions continue to make a meaningful impact. Congrats, Mike, on receiving your 25-year award from CSC, and great job!”
