NACDA/CoSIDA Proposal Overview

NACDA would like to extend to CoSIDA the opportunity to relocate its annual Convention to the NACDA Convention beginning in 2013.

• CoSIDA and NACDA will have a unique or “Hybrid Relationship.” NACDA currently manages all aspects of the 11 associations it is now affiliated with, but that would not be the case with CoSIDA. Instead, CoSIDA would still continue to fully manage each and every component of its own association and annual convention- including registration and exhibit pricing as well as sponsorship arrangements, luncheons, social-based events and programming.

• CoSIDA will provide NACDA its desired meeting format and room block commitment; and NACDA will be responsible for selecting the appropriate time frame and meeting space.

• NACDA will require a commitment from CoSIDA through 2016 and will determine future commitment by August 1, 2014.

• CoSIDA will provide NACDA an annual management fee of $25,000. This fee will cover the following:
1. On-site management

2. Personnel allocation

3. Site visits

4. Marketing/PR (Web site, releases, ads, marketing brochure, convention manifest)

5. Athletics Administration magazine- A comp “CoSIDA Corner” page provided in each of our 8 issues(FYI- “CoSIDA Corner” would cost CoSIDA $12K if it had to purchase such space for 8 issues - $1500 cost of space value per issue)

6. Mid-Winter meeting networking/speaking opportunity

• CoSIDA will inform NACDA of its intention to meet in conjunction with NACDA’s Convention by December 15, 2008.

• NACDA members, per request by CoSIDA, will be invited to attend all CoSIDA based panels/seminars and Capital One Academic All-America Hall of Fame Induction.

• CoSIDA members will be able to attend the NACDA Convention for an additional add-on fee that will be determined at a later date.

• Exhibit Hall strategy will be determined at a later date (inclusion within NACDA event or CoSIDA runs their own specific area).

Following is a skeleton overview of the format utilized by the various associations during Convention week.

• These associations meet prior to the start of the NACDA Convention: College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA), Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA), Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA), National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA), National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC). In addition, in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014, Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) will hold its annual Convention in conjunction with NACDA.

• The following associations currently meet in conjunction with the NACDA Convention; International Collegiate Licensing Association (ICLA), National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD), National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA), Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA), Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (I-AAA ADA), Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA).

• NACDA also operates the Mentoring Institute during its Convention for an additional fee of $125. The Institute will be available to CoSIDA members for the above mentioned price. The attendance is limited to 75 individuals on a first come, first serve basis.

• In addition to the aforementioned affiliates and CLC meeting during the Annual NACDA Convention, in excess of 30 additional intercollegiate entities schedule meetings during this time period.

Here are NACDA’s Convention sites through 2016.
2010- Anaheim Marriott, 2011- Orlando World Center Marriott Resort, 2012- Hilton Anatole, Dallas, 2013-15 Orlando World Center Marriott Resort, 2016- Hilton Anatole, Dallas.

Why the CoSIDA/NACDA Hybrid Relationship is a Win-Win …
We recognize the importance of the communications field and recognize the importance of having CoSIDA’s Convention meet in conjunction with the NACDA Convention as it would be beneficial for both entities.

• It would allow the NACDA and CoSIDA members an opportunity to interact with one another at one common site and share ideas/concerns that may not have been previously discussed by both sides on a national level.

• It would bring “a seat to the table” – representatives from each association would have the opportunity to share thoughts and views of important athletics issues that are affecting the industry.

• It would provide the associations an opportunity to compose joint task forces to benefit one another, allowing for a more open line of communication between the two.

• It would allow both associations to ‘cross-over’ its panelists, topics, sessions, etc., which would enable each association to maximize efficiencies going forward.

1. Gives both sides an opportunity to attend each others sessions, which is something that has never been done before. An athletics director can just as easily attend a session for CoSIDA as it can for one of our affiliate associations.

2. Administrators from the development, licensing and marketing associations also hold separate Conventions in conjunction with the NACDA Convention, which gives another avenue of presenters/panelists to consider.

3. The addition of CoSIDA to the annual NACDA Convention would allow for unparalleled networking opportunities for the CoSIDA membership.

• It would provide each association the opportunity to continue running as independent units, but jointly work together for the common good of its members.
