The University Division Management Advisory Committee - UDMAC for short- was developed by a recommendation from the CoSIDA Executive Director, and implemented by the CoSIDA Board of Directors in June of 2008. The UDMAC was put in place at that time as part of the board’s strategic initiatives as it related to taking a needed step in creating a more federated management structure within CoSIDA that would encourage respective divisional leadership groups within the various divisional membership groups to take on a more direct and personal responsibility approach to managing the needs and issues of those divisional membership group within the overall CoSIDA organization.
At its inception in June of 2008, the UDMAC became an "umbrella" management group for all NCAA Division I based conferences and schools that aimed to focus on joint-based issues, challenges and opportunities within that specific NCAA division.
The UDMAC leadership group is the first-ever comprehensive Division I federated management structure for communications and information directors within Division I. Within its umbrella are the Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision and DI-AAA Management Advisory Committees.
The Board of each of each of these three respective advisory groups is composed of one representative from each of the conferences that makeup that subdivision and has a respective Chair and Vice Chair. Charles Bloom (Southeastern Conference) continues to chair the overall University Division Management Executive Committee which seeks to coordinate any joint DI matters that involves all three divisional groups. The UDMAC Executive Committee is composed of the three Chairs and Vice Chairs from each of the three divisional management groups and CoSIDA Executive Director John Humenik serves in an Ex-Officio capacity.
The Management Advisory Committee for the Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision and D1-AAA subdivision manage issues specific to its group.
The leadership of the UDMAC Executive Committee, as well as each of the three divisional specific management advisory committees within that umbrella, works with the CoSIDA Executive Director and Board of Directors to build appropriate working relationships with the NCAA national offices as well as the leadership of the various divisional Athletics Director Associations and the Conference Commissioner Groups.
These are the three divisional specific management advisory committees (MAC) responsibilities:
• consistently communicate with their respective membership groups on CoSIDA related matters and business, professional issues, challenges and opportunities; :
• conduct appropriate membership based conference calls and arrange conference calls with the leadership of other national management organizations;
• develop and finalize specific "University Division Programming" for the annual CoSIDA Convention and nominate deserving individuals for leadership positions and organizational awards.
