Bill Hamilton was inducted into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame during the 2009 convention in San Antonio, Texas, at the Marriott Rivercenter. Hamilton has won many CoSIDA awards including: 25-Year Award (1998), Bob Kenworthy Community Service Award (1998), Mary Jo Haverbeck Trailblazer Award (2005), Arch Ward Award (2009) and Lifetime Achievement Award (2013). He served on the CoSIDA Board of Directors as an at-large representative from 1992-93 to 1994-95.
He retired in 2013 after 40 years as the only full-time SID in South Carolina State school history, beginning his career in July 1973.
A Baltimore, Maryland, native, he grew up in Chesterfield, South Carolina. He earned a bachelor’s in English Language and Literature at SC State in 1973, and received a Master’s in Education from the Orangeburg institution in 1979. He did further study at New York University.
Other awards he received include the All-American Football Foundation Scoop Hudgins Outstanding SID Award, and the BCSIDA Cal Jacox-Champ Clark Award.
He is also enshrined in the MEAC Hall of Fame and the SC State Hall of Fame.
