Homer Dunham – Western Michigan University

Homer Dunham's 50 years of service in his field earned him the title of dean of the nation's college sports publicity men. Dunham began his long publicity career in 1912 while a student at Alma College.

Dunham remained at Alma in that capacity until assuming the position of publicity director at Western Michigan in 1929. As Western grew Dunham began to concentrate in sports publicity, until he retired on July 1, 1962.

His death in Kalamazoo on March 8, 1964 ended a long and devoted allegiance to Western.

Dunham won many laurels for his sports publicity work at Western. In 1935-36 he served as president of the College Sports Information Directors of America; in 1943 he was honored by the American College Publicity Association; in 1954 he was named college public relations man-of-the-year by the association; and in 1957 he was given the first annual award of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

He received his bachelor's degree from Western in 1937.
