Six-Member Hall of Fame Highlights CoSIDA's 2021 Special Award Honorees
John Kean – Missouri S&T (Sports Information Director)
Helping forge a strategic path for NCAA Division II athletic communications.
For over 30 years,
John Kean has served as the sports information director at Missouri S&T as well as developing and maintaining the DII Men's Basketball Home page, the bible of DII basketball, and home for information about the division since 1996. Kean has also served as a liaison with the National Basketball Coaches Association DII men's basketball poll for 17 years.
Kean is currently serving on the CoSIDA Board of Directors as a college division representative. He served as the president of D2SIDA from 2015-18 after serving in the officer rotation from 2012-15. As a member of D2SIDA, he has worked to develop the professional development curriculum for the Division II Divisional Day at the convention. While on the D2SIDA leadership team, he also played an integral role in the update of the D2SIDA strategic communications document. Prior to his term as president, Kean served as vice president and as a member of the D2SIDA board.
While serving as president, Kean attended four NCAA Conventions as the D-II representative for a CoSIDA leadership group that meets at the convention. He also served as a member of the (former) College Division Management Advisory Committee for CoSIDA.
Kean was also named the 2017-18 Great Lakes Valley Conference Dr. Thomas Kearns Service Award winner.
He is a 1986 graduate of Southeast Missouri State.
The CoSIDA Hall of Fame Class of 2021 was honored virtually during the 2021 Virtual Convention.
