The 2011 Capital One Academic All-America men's and women's soccer teams are being announced this week (Monday-Thursday,, Nov. 28-Dec. 1). This year, with the expansion of the Capital One program from two teams (University and College Divisions) to four teams (Division I, Division II, Division III and College Divisions), one divisional team per day will be announced.

Thursday, Dec. 1: Division I AAA soccer teams

Division III Capital One Academic All-America® Men's & Women's Soccer Teams (PDF)
TOWSON, Md. – Senior forwards Drew Golz of Wheaton College (Ill.) and Courtney Chadburn of Castleton State lead the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). 
Golz and Chadburn have been chosen as the NCAA Division III Academic All-America® of the Year award winners for men’s and women’s soccer, respectively.
The Capital One Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 D-III Academic All-America® teams program.
A chemistry (pre-medicine) major with a 3.97 grade point average (G.P.A.), Golz is making his second straight appearance on the Capital One Academic All-America® Men’s Soccer first team. A native of River Forest, Illinois, he was named to the All-College Conference of Illinois Wisconsin first team after leading Wheaton with 26 points on 10 goals and six assists.
In three years at Wheaton, he scored 29 goals with 14 assists. As a senior, he led the team to a 10-6-2 record. A two-sport standout, Golz was also named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Baseball second team.
A physical education major with a 3.96 G.P.A., Chadburn has earned the highest academic honor in her first appearance on the Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Women’s Soccer first team.
A native of North Clarendon, Vermont, Chadburn was recently named as the North Atlantic Conference's Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive year. As a senior, she scored 20 goals with 17 assists while leading the Spartans to a 17-5 record and an NCAA Division III playoff appearance. Chadburn, who led the NAC in scoring three years in a row, also led the Spartans to their second straight conference championship as a senior.
The NCAA Division III leader with 17 assists, she is fifth in NCAA Division III with 57 points. Chadburn finished her career as Castleton's all-time leading scorer with 86 goals, 41 assists and 213 points.
Men's Soccer Division III Academic All-America® Team
While Golz is the only repeat selection on the NCAA Division III first team, the other 10 student-athletes on the Division III Academic All-America® Men’s Soccer first team are first-time honorees.
The backline is composed of five seniors: goalkeeper David D’Annunzio of Swarthmore College, defender Gregory Capece of Endicott College, defender Benjamin Ceder of Gustavus Adolphus College, defender Aaron Grossberg (Pacific Lutheran University), and defender Brad Shelofsky (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute).
The 11 scholar-athletes on the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.89.
An engineering major with a 3.94 GPA, D’Annunzio finished his senior campaign with an 11-5-1 overall record, a 0.73 goals against average and eight shutouts. A native of Piedmont, California and an Academic All-District® selection in 2009, D’Annunzio served as a team captain and was named to the All-Centennial Conference Second Team.
A biotechnology major with a 3.96 GPA, Capece becomes the first men’s soccer Academic All-America® in school history. A native of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., Capece was named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Academic team and led the Gulls to their first-ever Eastern College Athletic Conference Tournament berth.
A biology major with a 3.88 G.P.A., Ceder started all 19 matches for a Gustie defense that ranked fifth in the nation in goals against average (0.44) and ninth in shutout percentage (0.61). A native of Oregon, Wis., Ceder started 70-of-74 matches during his four-year career and was a three-time Academic All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection. As a senior, he led Gustavus Adolphus to a 14-2-3 record.
Grossberg, a biology major with a 3.97 G.P.A., led Pacific Lutheran to a school-record 15 wins and the first NCAA Championship Tournament berth in school history. A native of Corvallis, Ore., Grossberg was an All-Northwest Conference pick for the second straight season. The Lutes finished the season with a 15-4 record.
A Mechanical Engineering major with a 3.92 G.P.A., Shelofsky is making his first appearance on the Academic All-America® team after earning all-district honors twice. A native of Rochester, N.Y., Shelofsky helped anchor a defense that held opponents to a 0.73 goals against average while posting 10 shutouts. A team captain, he also earned second-team All-Liberty League honors for RPI.
In the midfield, junior Pat Brennan of Baldwin-Wallace College is the only non-senior to earn first team honors. Senior Sean Coleman of Johns Hopkins University and senior Kreigh Kamman of DePauw University complete the midfield.
Pursuing an M.B.A. in accounting, Brennan carries a 3.79 G.P.A. and served as a team captain this season. Named second team All-Ohio Athletic Conference, Brennan scored seven goals with seven assists as he led as the Yellow Jackets set a school record with 16 victories. With a 16-6 record, Baldwin-Wallace earned the program’s first-ever berth to the NCAA Championship Tournament. An Akron, Ohio native, Brennan is a two-year starter for the Yellow Jackets.
Coleman, who has a double major of philosophy and History with a 3.75 G.P.A., earned Academic All-America® first team honors in his first year of eligibility. A transfer from the University of New Hampshire, Coleman led the Blue Jays to a 10-5-3 record and to the Centennial Conference regular season championship. A native of Lee, N.H., he earned first team All-Centennial Conference honors with seven goals, and five assists for 19 points.
A biochemistry and French major with a 3.94 G.P.A., Kamman led DePauw to a 16-3-1 overall record and a No. 12 national ranking. A native of Granger, Ind., Kamman led the Tigers to the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship and an NCAA Division III Tournament berth. He scored two goals and had one assist while earning honorable mention all-conference honors.
Senior forward Dan Hosko of the Milwaukee School of Engineering and senior forward Duncan Keegan of Hendrix College join Golz on the front line.
An architectural engineering major with a 3.77 G.P.A., Hosko led the All-Northern Athletics Conference in scoring with 11 goals, nine assists and 31 points. A Pittsburgh, Pa. native, Hosko earned first team all-conference honors.
Keegan, a biology major, is the only member of the Division III Academic All-America® Men’s Soccer first team with a 4.0 G.P.A. The leading scorer in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the Signal Mountain, Tenn. native was named first team all-conference. After scoring a league-leading 14 goals with a league high 37 points, he finished his career as the Warriors’ all-time scoring leader with 36 goals, 21 assists and 93 points. He earned all-conference honors three years in a row.
Women's Soccer Division III Academic All-America® Team
The 12 members of the Academic All-America® Division III Women’s Soccer first team have an impressive average G.P.A. of 3.90.
Senior Katy Wendt of Wartburg College (Iowa) is the only repeat selection on the Capital One Academic All-America® Women’s Soccer first team. A psychology major with a 3.99 G.P.A., Wendt also earned first team notice last season. A native of Bettendorf, Iowa, Wendt is a four-time first-team All-Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection and was named as the IIAC's Most Valuable Player in 2011, the first honoree from Wartburg since 2008. As a senior, she scored eight goals with a team high 13 assists this season as Wartburg compiled a 17-2-3 record, earning an NCAA Division III Tournament berth. Wendt finished her career with 32 assists, the second highest mark in school history.
Two of the top NCAA Division III teams in the nation this season, Johns Hopkins University and William Smith College were the only schools to place more than one player on the Academic All-America® Division III Women’s Soccer first team. Defender Pamela Kopfensteiner and midfield Erica Suter represent Johns Hopkins on the first team while a pair of defenders, Alyse DiCenzo and Jessie Tarantino, played for William Smith.
Kopfensteiner and Suter led No. 4 Johns Hopkins to a final record of 21-1. The Blue Jays had their 21-match winning streak snapped in the NCAA Division III Tournament by Amherst. The Centennial Conference champions allowed only 11 goals in 22 matches.
Kopfensteiner, who has a double major in cognitive science and psychology with a 3.80 G.P.A., was a three-year starter on defense for the Blue Jays. A native of Upper Saddle River, N.J., she added four assists while playing excellent defense.
Honored as the Centennial Conference Player of the Year, Suter is an international studies major with a 3.33 G.P.A. A three-time all-conference selection, Suter led the Centennial Conference in scoring with 15 goals, 19 assists and 53 points. She finished her career as the Blue Jays’ career scoring leader with 55 goals and 31 assists.
DiCenzo and Tarantino have been keys to an incredible defense at William Smith. The Herons, who are 20-0-1 and will play in the NCAA Division III semi-finals on Saturday (Dec. 3), have allowed only two goals in 1,910 minutes this season, a 0.09 goals against average with 19 shutouts.
A biochemistry major with a 3.85 G.P.A., DiCenzo is a three-year starter for the Herons. A three-time All-Liberty League selection, the Pittsford, N.Y. native was named as the Liberty League’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. Another three-year starter on defense, Tarantino has a double major of economics and mathematics with a 4.19 G.P.A. Named to the All-Liberty League team, she is a native of East Aurora, N.Y.
Forwards Elaine Gerry of Edgewood and Paige Piper of the College of Wooster are the only juniors on the Academic All-America® Division III Women’s Soccer first team.
Gerry, an accounting major with a 3.94 G.P.A., earned first team All-Northern Athletics Conference honors at Edgewood this season. A native of Prairie du Sac, Wis., she earned first team All-Northern Athletics Conference honors after scoring 24 goals with 52 points while leading the Eagles to a 14-5-1 record. A three-time All-NAC selection, she has scored 75 goals in her career.
Piper, who has a double major in biochemistry and molecular biology with a 3.94 G.P.A., earned first team All-North Coast Athletic Conference notice as a junior at Wooster. A native of Midland, Mich., Piper led Wooster to a 9-7-3 record while leading the Scots in scoring with 11 goals and three assists.
Seniors Justine Clay of Piedmont College and Stephanie Skelly of Williamette University join Suter on the Academic All-America® Division III first team midfield.
A nursing major with a 3.89 G.P.A., Clay earned All-Great South Atlantic honors for the fourth year in a row. The Lions’ second-leading scorer with ten goals and five assists, the Buford, Ga. native helped Piedmont post the best record in school history (17-3-1) which included a conference championship and an NCAA Division III Tournament berth.
Skelly, a biology major with a 3.88 G.P.A., was selected as the Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year in 2011. A native of Poulsbo, Wash., Skelly led the conference with 16 goals and 37 points. She led Williamette to an 11-8-2 record.
Senior Liz Stock of Hamline University is the goalkeeper on the Academic All-America® Division III first team. Stock, who has a double major of biology and religion with a 4.00 G.P.A., earned All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors this season. She played in 16 games and started 14 of them. The Savage, Minn. native allowed just 11 goals and recorded 68 saves while finishing the season with a 0.87 goals against average.
Senior defender Kristin Brown of Wisconsin-Lacrosse rounds out the Academic All-America® Division III Women’s Soccer first team. A biology major with a 4.00 G.P.A., she started all 18 games for UWL, helping the team post a 10-6-2 record. A native of Madison, Wis., Brown was also named to the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Team.
