The 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® volleyball teams are being announced this week (Monday-Thursday, Dec. 12-15). This year, with the expansion of the Capital One program from two teams (University and College Divisions) to four teams (Division I, Division II, Division III and College
Divisions), one divisional team per day will be announced.

2011 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Volleyball Team (PDF)
TOWSON, Md. – Senior middle hitter Rebecca Kamp of Calvin College leads the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Volleyball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Kamp has been chosen as the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year award winner for Division III volleyball.
The Capital One Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 D-III Capital One Academic All-America® teams program.
A Special Education major with a 3.91 G.P.A.,
Kamp also earned CoSIDA Academic All-America® College Division first team honors as a sophomore in 2009. Only the second volleyball player in NCAA Division III history to be named first team All-American three years in a row, she was selected as the 2011 NCAA Division III National Player of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
A native of Orland Park, Ill., Kamp led Calvin to a 33-1 record and a number one national ranking as a senior. By averaging 3.85 kills and 1.37 blocks per match, she guided the Knights to 33 straight wins before they lost in the regional finals to Wittenberg, the eventual NCAA Division III champion. Honored as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Most Valuable Player three years in a row, she finished her career as the Knights’ all-time leader with 1,868 kills. She also owns the school record with 574 career blocks.
As a junior, Kamp guided Calvin to a 32-4 record and the Knights’ first-ever NCAA Division III national championship. She was named as the Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA championship.
Named as an All-MIAA selection four times, she helped Calvin post a 119-17 record in her four-year career.
A three-time Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Most Valuable Player, Kamp led the defending national-champion Knights to the NCAA Championship Tournament Round of 16 with 400 kills and a .401 hitting percentage.
Kamp is joined on the 2011 NCAA Division III Academic All-America® first team by a pair of repeat selections and three first-time honorees. The six members of the Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Volleyball first team have an impressive average G.P.A. of 3.98. Three of the six first team picks carry perfect 4.00 G.P.A.’s.
Senior middle hitter Tricia McCutchan of Case Western Reserve is the only three-time Academic All-America® honoree on the first team. She earned first-team honors in 2010 and was a second team pick as a sophomore.
Senior setter Maria Horning of Eastern was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® first team for the second straight season.
Senior outside hitter Jenna Eshleman of Bluffton,
junior outside hitter Kristen Bennett of Otterbein and
junior setter Jessica Zavatchen of Bethany (W. Va.) complete the Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Volleyball first team.
A biomedical engineering (pre-med) major with a 4.0 G.P.A.,
McCutchan is the first player from Case Western Reserve to earn first team All-University Athletic Association honors since the 2000 season. A native of Hamilton, Ohio, McCutchan led the UAA with 457 kills and was second in the UAA with 116 total blocks. A four-time All-UAA selection, she led the Spartans to a 22-10 record as a senior. She finished her career as Case Western’s career leader with 1,917 kills and 489 blocks.
An economic development major with a 3.99 G.P.A.,
Horning led the Eagles to a berth in the NCAA Division III Final Four and a 36-2 record as a senior. Eastern fell to Wittenberg in the national semi-finals. Honored as a first-team AVCA All-American for the second year in a row, she was named as the Freedom Conference Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive season. A native of Denver, Pa., Horning had 1,416 assists and 355 digs while leading Eastern to its fourth consecutive Freedom Conference championship.
A social work major with a 3.96 G.P.A.,
Eshleman was named as a first team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference while leading the Beavers to a 22-11 record. A three-time selection as first team all-conference, she had 382 and 429 digs as a senior. A native of Landisville, Pa., Eshleman finished her career with 1,222 kills, fifth on the school’s all-time list. She also averaged 2.82 kills per set, the second best mark in program history. She is only the third player in Bluffton history with more than 1,200 kills and 1,300 digs in her career.
Bennett is a speech communication major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. and was named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference second team at Otterbein. While leading the Cardinals to a 26-6 record and their second straight NCAA playoff berth, the Cincinnati, Ohio native averaged 2.56 kills per set with a .278 hitting percentage and 0.75 blocks per set.
A pre-physical therapy major with a 4.0 G.P.A.,
Zavatchen was named to the All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference first team after breaking the Bethany single season record with 1,468 assists. Only a junior, she already owns the Bethany career record with 3,849 assists. A native of Uniontown, Pa., Zavatchen helped the Bison post a 31-6 record while winning a second straight Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference South Region Championship.
