Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Volleyball Team

TOWSON, Md. – Senior setter Paula Ferreira of Columbia (Mo.) College leads the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Volleyball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
An international business major with a 3.92 G.P.A., Ferreira was chosen as the winner of the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year award for the second consecutive year.
The Capital One College Division Academic All-America® volleyball team is comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
Ferreira was named the NAIA Player of the Year for the second time and she earned NAIA first team All-American notice for the third consecutive season. She was also the NAIA Player of the Year in 2010.
She led Columbia to a 42-2 record and a berth in the NAIA Championship Match where the No. 3 Cougars lost to undefeated Concordia (Cal.). Ferreira was honored as the NAIA Championship Most Valuable Player.
Ferreira, who was also named the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 NAIA Tournament, was named as the American Midwest Conference Setter of the Year four times in her career. She was also honored as the Conference’s Player of the Year three times.
A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she was named to the All-AMC team four times and was selected to the Academic All-Conference team three times. The two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete finished her college career as the all-time assists leader with 6,280 in four years. As a senior, she had 1,766 assists, the third-highest single-season assist total in school history. With 82 service aces this season, Ferreira also finished her career as the Cougars’ all-time leader with 245 service aces.
In her career, she led the Cougars to a 181-13 record and three conference tournament championships.
Ferreira is one of three players on the Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Volleyball first team who is a repeat selection on the first team.
Senior Desiree Erikson of Doane and
senior Lindsey Oberacker of Point Park earned first team notice for the second year in a row.
Seniors Anastasija Baranovska of Madonna, Lauren Crump of IU-East and
Katie Zent of Jamestown round out the Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Volleyball first team.
The six members of the Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Volleyball first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.91.
A biochemistry major with a 3.95 G.P.A.,
Erikson led Doane to a 29-8 record as the Tigers advanced to the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament in 2012. The Comstock, Neb., native set single season bests with 384 digs and 29 service aces in 2012 as she finished her career with 1,129 assists and 909 digs. She was named to the All-Great Plains Athletic Conference honorable mention team twice. Erikson has also been honored as NAIA Scholar-Athlete and was named as a GPAC Scholar-Athlete four times.
A biology/pre-med major with a 3.96 G.P.A.,
Oberacker led Point Park to a 30-10 record and was named to the NAIA All-America honorable mention team for the second time. A four-time all-conference selection, she was an All-Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection in 2012. Oberacker had 396 kills and 342 digs for the Pioneers. A native of Erie, Pa., she was also named to the AVCA All-Northeast Region team for the third time. Led by her play at the net, Point Park was second in the NAIA in total blocks (375.5) and sixth in hitting percentage (.283).
An English major with a 3.91 G.P.A.,
Baranovska earned NAIA All-America honorable mention honors as she led No. 15 Madonna to a 35-9 record and a berth in the NAIA National Championship Tournament. A native of Riga, Latvia, she finished first in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in total blocks (152) and blocks per set (1.02). Her .342 attack percentage ranked 20th nationally while her 152 total blocks was good for 13th in the national rankings. Baranovska was named to the All-WHAC first team for the second consecutive year and was also named to the AVCA All-Region first team.
A communication studies major with a 3.79 G.P.A.,
Crump was named as an NAIA All-America third team selection as she led No. 19 Indiana-East to a 44-6 record and a berth in the NAIA National Tournament. She was a second team All-American in 2010 and was an honorable mention selection in 2011 for the Red Wolves. Crump led the NAIA in total assists (1,979) for the third consecutive year and finished her career as the NAIA's career leader with 6,908 assists in the rally scoring era. Her 12.14 assists per set ranked her second in the NAIA. The Indianapolis, Ind., native was named as the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year three times and she was named to the AVCA All-Northeast Region team.
A biology major with a 3.94 G.P.A.,
Zent led Jamestown to the best record in school history with a 27-9 mark. The Jimmies also qualified for the NAIA National Tournament. Zent tallied 341 kills while registering a .234 hitting percentage. She also had 115 total blocks and 287 digs. She was named to the All-Association of Independent Institutions teams the last two years. Zent finished her career with 1,142 kills, 673 digs and 425 total blocks. A native of Lefor N.D., native, she was also named as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
Seniors Sydnie Abel of Kansas Wesleyan, Sabra Clark of Oklahoma Baptist and
Ally Fast of Brock led the Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Volleyball second team.
Juniors Rae Brandes of Indiana Wesleyan, Kelly Cole of Asbury and
Taryn Nash of Spring Hill round out the second team.
A pair of teammates,
seniors Lauren Percival and Gina Porto of Mount Nazarene, top the Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Volleyball third team.
Seniors Fei Gao of NAIA champion Concordia (Cal.), Yui Iwase of Indiana Wesleyan and
Calle Sollie of Mid-America Christian were also named to the third team, along with
junior Kaitlin Feddema of Trinity Christian and
sophomore Taylor Reuther of Xavier (La.).
