This week (August 6-9), CoSIDA and Capital One are announcing the four Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year award recipients - one each from the College Division, Division III, II and I. These four top scholar-athletes are chosen from all the divisional Team Members of the Year who have been honored throughout the academic year.

TOWSON, Md. – Golfer Brooke Pancake of the University of Alabama has been named as the 2012 Capital One Division I Academic All-America® of the Year, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A marketing major who completed her degree with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A., Pancake led Alabama to its first NCAA Women’s Golf Championship in May. She clinched the title when she rolled in a four-foot putt for par on the 18th hole to give Alabama a one-stroke victory.
Individually, Pancake finished as the 2012 NCAA runner-up with a two-under-par score of 286.
A three-time All-American, Pancake earned first team honors twice. Pancake finished her career with a 73.08 scoring average and she led the Crimson Tide as a senior with a 72.52 stroke average. She earned the 2011 Edith Cummings Munson Award from the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) for the student-athlete with the highest G.P.A. among first team All-Americans.

Concordia-St. Paul baseball star Bryan Lippincott was selected as the Division III Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year.
Pancake, a Chattanooga, Tenn., native, was a three-time Southeastern Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year award winner and a three-time NGCA Scholar Athlete.
A four-time All-SEC selection, she closed out her career as the sixth-ranked golfer nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate, Alpha Lamba Delta, Phi Eta Sigma, Sigma Alpha Lamba, Golden Key and XXXI, the Alabama elite women’s honorary.
She was also named as the winner of the 2012 Honda Award, presented to the top collegiate golfer in the nation.
"What a special honor to be recognized as the Capital One Division I Academic All-America® of the Year,” said Pancake. “It is extremely humbling to be selected as the top student-athlete across all sports for my senior year.
“My performance in the classroom was always just as important to me as my play on the course during my time at Alabama,” she added. “I was blessed to be able to accomplish so much in both settings. It was such a privilege to earn my degree from the University of Alabama while also helping to build the Crimson Tide women’s golf program into one of the nation’s elite.”
Pancake was also honored as the winner of the Paul W. Bryant Award as Alabama’s most outstanding female student athlete in 2011-12. In June, she was named as the Southeastern Conference’s Female Athlete of the Year.
She became a professional player in the LPGA in June and played in the U.S. Women’s Open at Blackwolf Run in July in Kohlers, Wis. She is playing in the Jamie Farr Toldeo Classic this weekend.
