TOWSON, Md. – Swimmers Mark Rubin of the University of the Incarnate Word and
Julie Widmann of Ashland University headline the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men’s and Women’s At-Large Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
The Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men’s At-Large program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wrestling. The Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Women’s At-Large program includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo.
Rubin, a senior with a 3.98 G.P.A. as a biology major, has been named as the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year for the Division II Men’s At-Large program. Widmann, a marketing major with a 3.90 G.P.A., has been named as the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year for the Division II Women’s At-Large program.
Rubin leads a contingent of seven swimmers named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men’s At-Large first team. In addition, he is one of seven repeat performers after earning first team

honors a year ago.
A native of Phoenix, Ariz., he took home six All-America awards at the 2013 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving National Championships and won the national title in the 1000-free with a school-record time. In addition, he took home second place finishes in the 500-free and 1650-free, was fourth in the 400-yard freestyle and 800-yard freestyle relays, and sixth in the 200-yard freestyle. Rubin’s strong showing helped the Cardinals finish third in the team competition.
Rubin finished his career with a total of 13 All-American and four honorable mention All-America citations, the second best total in school history. He was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference first team All-Academic three times and was the RMAC Championship Swimmer of the Meet and Academic Student-Athlete of the Year in 2011-12.
Widmann (right), a first team Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Women’s At-Large selection for the second time, also excelled in the pool. A native of Littleton, Col., she won the national championship in the 200-yard freestyle relay and finished second in the 50-free and 100-backstroke. She added a fourth All-American performance with a fifth place finish in the 100-free.

Ashland finished 12th at the NCAA Division II National Championships, marking the fourth consecutive year that the Eagles finished among the top 12 teams in the nation.
Widmann was a 23-time All-American, along with posting honorable mention All-American finishes four times. She is the only female swimmer in Ashland history to win four national championships, winning three in the 200-yard freestyle relay and one in the 100- backstroke. She earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors 21 times, and is the GLIAC record holder in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 50-yard freestyle.
2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men’s At-Large Team
The 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men’s At-Large first team has eight members who received Academic All-America® honors in 2012. Three of those individuals were first team honorees.
The 15 members of the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men’s At-Large first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.83.
Ben Boesing of the University of Southern Indiana and
Marko Blazevski of Wingate University join Rubin as repeat first team selections. Boesing, a senior, is one of two tennis players named to the Capital One Academic All-America® first team.
Boesing is a business administration major with a 3.89 G.P.A. He won a school record 83 singles matches and is second all-time at USI with 162 victories between singles and doubles. He also owns the second longest singles winning streak with 18. He helped the Screaming Eagles win the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Preliminary Round and advance to the NCAA Championships for the first time ever. Boesing earned the NCAA Elite 89 award at the NCAA Tennis Championships. He finished his senior season with a 24-4 record in singles play and was 24-7 in doubles action.
Blazevski is one of seven swimmers on the Capital One Academic All-America® first team. A native of Skopje, Macedonia, he maintains a 3.82 G.P.A. as a finance major. Blazevski was an All-American in four events (three individual, one relay) as Wingate finished sixth at the NCAA Division II National Championships. He was second in the 400 I.M. after winning national titles in the 400 I.M. in 2011 and 2012. He also earned All-American notice in the 200-yard butterfly, 1000-yard freestyle and 800-yard freestyle relay. A member of the Macedonia Olympic team in 2012, Blazevski won three events (500-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly and 800-yard freestyle relay) as Wingate captured its sixth-straight Bluegrass Mountain Conference title in February. As a sophomore, he was a four-time All-American at the 2012 NCAA Division II meet. Blazevski was named as Wingate’s J. Howard Williams Award winner for Male Athlete of the Year last year.
Matt Atkins, a golfer at the University of South Carolina-Aiken, and
Rodolfo Gauto-Mariotti, a tennis player at Rockhurst University, moved up to the first team after earning second team notice last year.
Golfer Matt Michel of Bentley University and
swimmer Luke Calkins of the University California, San Diego were named to the third team in 2012.
A business administration major with a 3.71 G.P.A.,
Atkins was named to the 2013 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic golf team and was also honored as a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar last year. He finished with a 73.03 average rounds this season, leading the Pacers to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II championship. The 2013 Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year and a first team All-American as a junior, Atkins won two individual titles as a senior and finished in the top ten in seven of USC Aiken’s 13 tournaments. He also led the Pacers to their ninth Peach Belt Conference championship, winning the individual title with a 4-under score of 212.
An economics major,
Gauto-Mariotti has a near-perfect 3.99 G.P.A. He was recently named as the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winner for the NCAA Division II Midwest Region. Gauto-Mariotti posted a 17-7 record at number one singles for the Hawks. He also went 19-8 at No. 1 and 2 doubles. A native of Asuncion, Paraguay, he finished his career with a 58-21 record in singles and 60-30 record in doubles. He was named to the 2013 All-Great Lakes Valley Conference team.
Michel, who has a double major in corporate finance and accounting/liberal studies with a 3.88 G.P.A., led Bentley to a tie for tenth place at the 2013 NCAA East/Atlantic Super Regional. The native of Danvers, Mass., he was the Falcons’ top finisher, tying for 34th overall with a 54-hole score of 230. It was Bentley’s third straight appearance in the NCAA Regional. Michel led Bentley in stroke average for the second straight year with a 75.8 mark, just slightly higher than his 75.5 average as a junior. He had a career 77.3 average and he was named as the winner of the 2013 Powers Award as Bentley’s top senior scholar-athlete.
A mechanical engineering major with a 3.95 G.P.A.,
Calkins made his third straight trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships in March. The diver earned honorable mention All-America honors with a 16th-place finish in the three-meter event as California, San Diego finished seventh in the nation. In addition, he was 18th in the one-meter competition. He finished third in the one-meter competition and second on three meters at the Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference meet. At the 2012 Nationals, Calkins was a two-time honorable mention All-American, placing 11th in the 3-meter and 16th in the 1-meter. UC San Diego finished as the 2012 national runner-up.
Calkins is one of two UC San Diego student-athletes named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men’s At-Large first team. He is joined by senior Brian Donohoe, a water polo player who was a first team Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men’s At-Large selection a year ago. UC San Diego and St. Cloud State had two members named to the first team while six other teams had two individuals on one of the three Academic All-America® Teams.
Donohoe, a history major with a minor in biology and a 3.97 G.P.A., led the Tritons to a 16-8 record, reaching the championship game of the Western Water Polo Association Championships. He was named to the all-tournament first team. Donohoe finished the season with 28 goals, 15 assists and 30 steals. As a junior, he had 30 goals, 35 assists and 28 steals to lead the UC San Diego water polo team to a fourth place finish at the NCAA Championships. He was a 2011 ACWPC All-American and won the NCAA Elite 89 Award. He led the team with 45 goals as a sophomore.
Senior wrestler Jacob Kahnke and senior swimmer Luke Weber represent St. Cloud State University on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men’s At-Large First Team.
Kahnke was a four-time All-American for the Huskies after transferring from Old Dominion. A native of Shakopee, Minn., he capped his brilliant career with a third place finish at heavyweight at the 2013 NCAA National Championships, helping SCSU finished second as a team. He ended the year with a 23-1 record. In 2012, Kahnke earned his second straight runner-up finish at Nationals, finishing the year at 36-3 with 15 pins. He was 29-2 as a sophomore and posted a 30-7 record as a freshman. A recreation & sport management major with a 3.42 G.P.A., Kahnke finished his career with 118 wins.
A biomedical science major with a 3.51 G.P.A.,
Weber was an eight-time All-American diver. He capped off his career with a national championship in the 3-meter diving at the 2013 NCAA National Championships. He earned a second place showing in the 1-meter dive. He was named as the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Male Diver of the Year. Weber was previously the runner-up on the 1-meter board in 2012, and finished third in the 3-meter in 2011.He was named as the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Male Diver of the Year twice.
Senior Matt Baker of Maryville University is the second wrestler on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men’s At-Large first team. A native of Prairie Village, Kan., he was the national champion at 197 lbs. in 2013, ending the year with a 40-1 mark. A two-time All-American, he finished eighth in 2011 while wrestling for Nebraska-Omaha. He ended his career with 127 wins at two schools. A biology education major with a 3.53 G.P.A., Baker was awarded the 2012 Great Lakes Valley Conference Sportsmanship Award, although wrestling is not a league-sponsored sport.
Senior Kyle House of Queens University of Charlotte is an organizational communication major with a 3.96 G.P.A. A senior swimmer, he earned All-American honors in the 200- medley relay with a sixth place finish at Nationals. He was part of the school record-setting 200-medley relay team and won the event at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships. He was also part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that earned All-American accolades with a fourth place showing, and was an All-American in the 100-yard butterfly. The owner of school records in the 100- butterfly and 200-backstroke, House earned All-American honors in two events and was an honorable mention All-American in three others in 2012.

uniors Ivan Nechunaev of Grand Canyon University and Florida Southern University’s Robbie Swan.
Nechunaev was a six-time All-American at the NCAA Championships and was part of GCU’s national champion 400- medley relay team, setting a Division II record time. He took second place in the 100- butterfly and was third in the 200-butterfly. He also swam a leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that placed second. A native of Tomsk, Russia, Nechunaev is a finance and economics major with a 3.98 G.P.A. He was the recipient of the NCAA Elite 89 Award.
A business major with a 4.00 G.P.A.,
Swan earned five All-American honors at the NCAA National Championships. He was also the recipient of the NCAA Elite 89 Award for men’s swimming. A native of Snellville, Ga., he helped Florida Southern finish as the NCAA Division II national runner-up. As the anchor of the 200-medley relay team, Swan helped the Moccasins win the national championship in that event while setting an NCAA record. He also swam anchor on the national runner-up 400-medley relay team, and the third place 400- freestyle relay team. He was also part of the 200-freestyle relay which earned All-American honors. He also took fourth place in the 100-freestyle.
Tusculum College’s Lukas Winkelmann is the lone sophomore on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men’s At-Large first team. A tennis player from Boeblingen, Germany, he has a 3.93 G.P.A. as a pre-medicine (dentistry) major. In 2013, he was named as the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year after finishing with a 17-2 record in singles action, including a perfect 9-0 in the conference. He had a 12-7 record in doubles play. Winkelmann was named Tusculum’s Male Athlete of the Year after leading the Pioneers to the SAC Championship. He closed out the regular season with 12 straight singles wins. A two-time All-SAC performer, he was named as the SAC Freshman of the Year in 2012.
2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Women’s At-Large Team
Like the men’s team, the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Women’s At-Large first team is dominated by seven swimmers and four golfers. Three schools had a pair of first team selections, including Ashland University, California University (Pa.), and the University of Indianapolis. Wayne State (MI) University had a first team and a second team selection while Newberry College garnered first and third team honorees.
The fifteen members of the Capital One Division I Academic All-America® At-Large First Team combined for a 3.91 G.P.A.
In addition to Widmann,
Ashland is represented by senior Holly James, a member of the golf team. A management information systems major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A., James led the Eagles to the NCAA Division II National Championships for the second time in three years. A native of Strongsville, Ohio, she helped the Eagles to a second place finish in regional play and ended up 12th at Nationals. She finished 53rd at Nationals with a 72-hole total of 327. In addition, she tied for second in the NCAA Regional and finished fifth at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship. She was also an All-GLIAC pick three times.
California (Pa.) landed a pair of junior swimmers on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Women’s At-Large first team,
Clarissa Enslin and Kelsey Nuhfer.
A geology major with a 3.98 G.P.A.
Enslin earned All-American honors in the 100-freestyle with a seventh place finish. She is a four-time All-American (100/200-yard freestyles and 200/400-yard freestyle relays) and a seven-time honorable mention All-American. She won the 100 and 200- freestyle races at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships, and has now won the 200-free all three years. Enslin holds three school records (200-freestyle, 200-backstroke, 200-I.M.) and is part five school record relay teams. She is a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American and has earned All-PSAC recognition eight times.
Nuhfer was named to the first team after earning third team honors last year. A native of Warren, PA, she is a communication disorder major with a 3.99 G.P.A. and earned All-American honors in the 200-freestyle relay in 2012. She was also part of a PSAC champion in the event. She qualified for the 2013 PSAC Championships in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. Nuhfer is part of two school record relay teams and she is a two-time CSCAA Scholar All-American.
Senior Maura Donahue of Indianapolis has been as a Capital One Academic All-America® selection for the third time. She earned first team honors in 2012 and was a second team selection in 2011. She has earned All-American honors 23 times in swimming, including 19 first team honors. At the 2013 NCAA National Championships, she battled illness but still earned All-American accolades with a sixth place finish in the 400-free relay and a seventh place showing in the 200-freestyle relay. She also won Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships in the 200-freestyle, the 1000-freestyle, the 400-freestyle relay and the 800-freestyle relay. She helped the Greyhounds to a second place finish, their highest since 2005. A native of Milan, Mich., she was named as the GLIAC Swimmer of the Year in 2011 and 2012 after being named the Freshman of the Year in 2010. She is a nursing major with a 3.64 G.P.A.
Indianapolis junior golfer Jenny Konop also represents the school on the first team. A native of Green Bay, Wis., she averaged a team best 77.6 strokes with an .815 winning percentage. She led Indianapolis to a seventh place finish at the NCAA National Championships, the team’s fourth top ten showing in the last five years. Konop was named the 2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year after finishing in the top ten in 10 of 13 events. That included six top-5 performances, including medalist honors in three tournaments. She finished sixth at the GLVC Championship and second at the NCAA Super Regional 1, helping the Greyhounds win back-to-back titles in both events. Konop was a 2013 first team WGCA All-Region selection, and is a two-time All-GLVC honoree. She is a biology major with a 3.94 G.P.A.
A sports & recreation management major with a 3.97 G.P.A.,
senior Alexandria Quast of Tiffin University is the third member of the women’s at-large first team to earn first team notice again. A standout in lacrosse, Quast had a tremendous senior season in which she was named a second team All-American by Synapse Sports and Women’sLacrosse.com, while earning first team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recognition. She set an NCAA record with 105 goals and had 176 points, the second-highest single season total in NCAA history. Quast also set an NCAA Division II record with 412 career points. She also scored 288 career goals, second in NCAA history. In 2012, the Lockport, N.Y. native had 82 goals and 22 assists for 104 points, leading NCAA Division II in goals and goals per game, while finishing third in points and points per game. As a sophomore, she fell just shy of a third 100-point season with 84 goals and 13 assists for 97 points. She was earned first team USA College Lacrosse.com All-American honors.
Seniors Janelle Krantz of Slippery Rock and Nicole Dion of Bentley University round out the list of repeat performers. Krantz was a second team pick in 2012 and Dion was named to the third team.
A therapeutic recreation major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A.
Krantz had an outstanding tennis career for The Rock. She posted a 17-8 record in doubles, mainly playing at No. 2. She was 11-12 in singles play, mostly at the No. 4 position. She ended her career with a 39-37 singles record and a 73-31 doubles mark.
A marketing major with a 3.93 G.P.A.,
Dion helped the Bentley field hockey team earn a berth in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. After finishing second on the team in scoring with 10 goals and two assists for 22 points in 2011, she moved to the midfield as a senior. Although she did not score, she led the Falcons to postseason action and an 11-8 final record. She was selected to participate in the 2012 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II North-South All-Star Game. A native of Lunenburg, Mass., she was a second team All-Northeast-10 pick in 2011. In 2009, she was named the 2009 Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year while scoring 10 goals.
Dion is one of two field hockey players named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Women’s At-Large first team. She is joined by
junior Nancy Stehman of NCAA champion West Chester University. A native of Lancaster, Pa, Stehman led the Golden Rams to their second straight national championship. The Golden Rams finished with a 20-2 record and defeated UMass-Lowell, 5-0, in the 2012 championship game. Stehman, a midfielder, finished the 2012 season with four goals, eight assists and 16 points while starting every game. She was named to the first team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division. In 2011, Stehman received the NCAA Elite 89 Award at the national championships. She is a middle grades and special education major with a 3.98 G.P.A.
Swimmers Stephanie Crandall of St. Cloud State University, Kayla Scott of Wayne State (Mich.) University, and
Kayla Shull of Clarion University were also named to the first team.
A senior political science major with a 3.80 G.P.A.,
Crandall is a two-time Husky of the Year and was part of the 400-medley relay team that finished eighth at Nationals this past year. She earned All-American honors and posted a school-record time in the prelims. In addition, she was an honorable mention All-American due to an 11th place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. A native of Woodbury, Minn., she also qualified for Nationals in the 50-freestyle.
A psychology major with a 3.63 G.P.A.,
Scott was a five-time All-American at the NCAA National Championships for Wayne State. She swam a leg of the national champion 200-medley relay team. In addition, the junior took second place in the 100-breaststroke and was part of the second place 200-freestyle relay team. She added a fifth place finish in the 400-medley relay, and was an honorable mention All-American in the 100-breaststroke. Scott also won three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles (100 breast, 200 IM, 200 medley relay). In 2012, Scott was a six-time first team All-American, with four national championships, including the 100-yard breaststroke, where she set an NCAA record time in the prelims. She is a 12-time All-American and a five-time national champion.
A speech pathology and audiology major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A.,
Shull concluded a brilliant career as a 15-time All-American, including earning a pair of certificates this year. She placed fifth in the 100-backstroke in a Clarion-record time of 55.40 while also taking 16th in the 200-yard freestyle. In 2012, she was a two-time All-American in the 100-backstroke and 14th in the 200-freestyle. As a sophomore, she led Clarion to a fourth place finish at Nationals as a six-time All-American. Named as the 2010 PSAC Freshman of the Year and earned All-American honors five times in her first trip
to Nationals. A native of Franklin, Pa., Shull was named the PSAC Champion Scholar (highest GPA at a PSAC Championship event) for the second straight year in 2013. She was the PSAC champion in the 100-yard backstroke four times. Shull is a speech pathology and audiology major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A.
Golfers Julia Daneshfar of Newberry College and Whitney McAteer of Northeastern State University complete the first team.
A senior political science major with a minor in Spanish and a 3.96 G.P.A.,
Daneshfar concluded her career as one of the most prominent women’s golfers in the history of the South Atlantic Conference. A native of Trophy Club, Texas, she has the third-best career scoring average in Newberry history at 79.29 and is one of only seven players in SAC history to finish with a sub-80 scoring average. She was a second team All-SAC Tournament honoree this season with a ninth place finish. A member of two SAC Championship teams, she was also named to the WGCA All-American Scholar team once. She concluded her career with a 34th place finish at the NCAA South Regional.
A speech and language pathology major with a 4.00 G.P.A.,
McAteer helped Northeastern State to an eighth place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships. She finished 35th with a 72-hole total of 312. She previously finished in a tie for 21st in the NCAA Central Super Regional with a 248 total over three rounds. As a sophomore, McAteer was named an NGCA All-American after averaging 76.5 strokes. She was an NGCA Academic All-American in her first three years.
