AUSTIN, Texas –  Senior guard Shelby Winkelmann of the University of Central Missouri and senior forward Kyle Cooper of Hillsdale College headline the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
                                                                    
Winkelmann has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division II women's basketball, while Cooper has been tabbed the Academic All-America® of the Year award winner for men’s basketball.
 
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
 
A speech pathology major with a 4.00 G.P.A., Winkelmann is a two-time All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association first-team selection. She helped Central Missouri earn a berth into the MIAA Women’s Basketball Championship. She leads the team and is ranked No. 22 in the country in scoring, averaging 19.7 points per game and has scored 20 or more points in 12 contests during the 2015-16 season.
 
A native of Rhineland, Missouri, Winkelmann is a two-time MIAA Academic Excellence Award winner, a three-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll selection and was named the 2014-15 MIAA Scholar Athlete. Earlier this season, Winkelmann joined Central Missouri’s 1,000 point club, aided by ranking No. 43 in the country in field goals made (181). She ranks seventh in the MIAA in field goal shooting percentage (48.8 percent) and eighth in free shooting percentage (79.8 percent).
 
A senior accounting major with a 3.98 G.P.A., Cooper is making his second-straight appearance on the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Men's Basketball first team.
 
The native of Northville, Michigan, was named the 2015-16 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Men’s Basketball Player of the Year and has been selected the GLIAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week five times this season. He ranks ninth in the country in double-doubles this season, averaging 22.8 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per contest.
 
A 2015 GLIAC Commissioner’s Award winner, Cooper currently ranks in the top 10 in 14 different GLIAC statistical categories. He ranks first in the GLIAC in scoring and three-point shooting percentage (45.3 percent), second in rebounding and 10th in field goal shooting percentage (56.1 percent).
 
CoSIDA Academic All-America® Women’s Basketball Division II Team

Eight of the 15 members of the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Women’s Basketball teams have at least a 3.90 G.P.A., with four student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The five members of the first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.94.
 
All 15 players on the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Women’s Basketball first, second and third teams are new honorees to this year’s listing.
 
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team is comprised of Lauren Langenderfer of Notre Dame (Ohio) College, Limestone College’s Maurissa Lester, Taylor Mann of Dixie State University, California Baptist University’s Cassidy Mihalko and Winkelmann.
 
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® second team includes Ashland University’s Andi Daugherty, Mary Dineen of Rockhurst University, University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Halle Jarnagin, Michaela Neuhaus of West Texas A&M University and Saginaw Valley State University’s Emily Wendling.
 
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® third team features Briana Bradford of University of New Haven, Lubbock Christian University's Nicole Hampton, Dina Ragab of New York Institute of Technology, Ohio Dominican University’s Melissa Scherpenberg and Farrah Shokoor of the University of California, San Diego.
 
CoSIDA Academic All-America® Men’s Basketball Division II Team
 
Four of the 15 members of the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Men’s Basketball teams have at least a 3.90 G.P.A., with one student-athlete maintaining a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The six members of the first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.86.
 
Along with Cooper, the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Men’s Basketball teams have four repeat performers from last year’s teams.
 
Peter Alexis of Philadelphia University was a third-team Academic All-America® Division II Men’s Basketball honoree during the 2014-15 season. He finishes his undergraduate psychology degree with a 3.61 G.P.A. and is maintaining a 4.00 G.P.A. graduate degree in community and trauma counseling. A native of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Alexis is the third player in Philadelphia program history to be named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year when he earned the honor earlier this year. He is a four-time All-CACC selection, including first-team honors in 2013-14 and 2015-16.
 
He leads the team by averaging 19.9 points per game and ranks eighth in the country in field goal shooting percentage (62.9 percent). He is the second player in program history with 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
 
Keegan Hyland of Bentley University holds a 3.92 G.P.A. in his pursuit of a MBA with a concentration in finance. Along with Cooper, Hyland is making his second-straight appearance on the Academic All-America® Division II men’s basketball first team.
 
A native of South Portland, Maine, Hyland is a two-time All-Northeast Conference selection, earning third-time honors in 2014-15 and a second-team selection in 2015-16. He leads Bentley in rebounds (204), assists (78), steals (33) and field goal percentage (52.3 percent), and was the team's top scorer in conference games, averaging 23.5. Hyland, who overcame a series of injuries that essentially sidelined him for four years (from his senior year of high school through his third collegiate season), has averaged 17.9 points in 73 career games, a production level that ranks fifth in program history.
 
Dallas Baptist University junior Myles Johnson carries a 3.94 G.P.A. in finance. Along with Alexis, he is a repeat honoree from the Academic All-America® Division II Men’s Basketball third team in 2014-15. The native of Arlington, Texas, has twice been named to the Heartland Conference Presidential Honor Roll. During the 2014-15 season, Johnson was named Dallas Baptist’s Most Valuable Player, All-Heartland Conference second team, NCCAA All-Central Region first team and NCCAA All-America second team.
 
After setting Dallas Baptist’s single-season scoring record with 572 points last year, Johnson ranks second on the team in scoring (14.0 points per game) and leads the team with 68 three-point field goals.
 
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team is comprised of Alexis, Cooper, Hyland, Adam Klie of UC San Diego, Oklahoma Christian University’s John Moon and Gokul Natesan of the Colorado School of Mines.
                                                         
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® second team includes West Liberty University’s Seger Bonifant, J.C. Hartzler of Rogers State University, Bentley’s Tyler McFarland and C.J. Wilson of Young Harris College.
 
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® third team features Ian Harward of Brigham Young University-Hawai'i, Johnson, West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Tanner McGrew, Tyler Sayre of The College of Saint Rose and Florida Southern College’s Dylan Travis.
