AUSTIN, TEXAS – Senior Alex Webb from the University of British Columbia tops the 2016 Academic All-America® College Division Baseball Team as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Webb, an electrical engineering major with a 3.75 G.P.A., was named the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America® of the Year for college division baseball.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® College Division Baseball Team is comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
A senior right-handed pitcher from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada,
Webb became a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America® with his first-team accolade this year. Webb had been selected as a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America® as a junior.
Webb reeled in NAIA West Group Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive year. Webb posted a 10-1 record, 1.38 earned run average, four complete games, three shutouts and 115 strikeouts in 104.1 innings pitched. Among the NAIA, Webb ranks second in ERA and opponents’ batting average (.155) and third in hits allowed per nine innings (4.83).
In 2016, Webb whitewashed Simpson University on three hits with 12 strikeouts in a nine-inning complete-game gem April 2, shut out Corban University in a three-hit, nine-inning effort March 5 and blanked the College of Idaho on four hits with 13 strikeouts in nine innings April 23. Webb recorded a 25-10 record, 2.72 ERA and 257 strikeouts in 261.2 innings in his career with the Thunderbirds.
The other two-time honoree among the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America® College Division Baseball Team is
Garrett Heath from Friends University. Heath grabbed a spot among the first team for the second consecutive year.
Heath has produced a 3.72 G.P.A. studying criminal justice and sociology. Heath, a senior shortstop from Lake Havasu City, Arizona, picked up honorable-mention All-Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference acclaim as well as a KCAC Gold Glove. He supplied Friends with a .367 batting average, two home runs and 32 runs batted in as well as 38 runs scored, 73 hits, 12 doubles, two triples and four stolen bases this year.
Off the field, Heath has been a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, and an Athletic Director’s Honor Roll choice multiple times. Heath finished his Friends career with a .331 average, seven homers, 117 RBI, 237 hits, 42 doubles and nine triples. Heath accrued first-team all-conference as a sophomore.

pitchers Jacob Guilianelli from William Woods University and Tanner Reklaitis of Trinity Christian College; Trinity Christian’s Zack Jones at catcher, infielders Zach Bohl of Cornerstone University, Jordan Braswell from Lyon College, Mark McGinnity of Peru State College and Joshua Pieper of Trinity Christian, outfielders Cole Gray of Midland University, Bryan Klendworth from Olivet Nazarene University and
Jeremy Maas of Concordia (Mich.) University, plus
Peru State designated hitter Jordan Silva.
The 11-member first team from the Academic All-America® College Division baseball squad has an average G.P.A. of 3.71, while the second team has an average G.P.A. of 3.73. The entire team boasts of an average G.P.A. of 3.72.
Trinity Christian led the CoSIDA Academic All-America® College Division Baseball Team with three selections, while Peru State landed two on this year’s team.
Half of the 22-man team has a 3.75 or better G.P.A., while four on the squad have a 3.90 or better G.P.A. Two among the team compiled a 4.00 G.P.A. – Braswell and Moody.
Eight of the team members competed in the NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round. Moody and Auburn Montgomery advanced to the Avista-NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.
