AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Taylor Weeks of Reinhardt University headlines the 2017 Academic All-America® College Division Softball Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The College Division Academic All-America® softball teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
Weeks was selected as the winner of the CoSIDA Academic All-America® of the Year award for the softball team.
A senior early childhood education major from White, Georgia, Weeks carries a 3.96 grade-point average.
Starting 57 games, Weeks recorded a .408 average with four doubles, five triples, 30 RBI, and 45 runs scored. She ranks in the top 50 in the NAIA in three categories, including 21st in total triples and 35th in total hits (73). Helping Reinhardt to 43-15-1 overall record, Weeks earned Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament MVP honors as the Eagles swept the league’s regular-season and tournament championships and advanced to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round.
A three-time academic all-conference honoree, Weeks landed on the All-AAC First Team three times. She wraps up her career at Reinhardt with a .396 average with 12 doubles, eight triples, 81 RBIs and 119 runs scored.
Weeks is one of five repeat CoSIDA Academic All-America® honorees from last year’s squad. Weeks and Cassie Kooker of Lindsey Wilson College were both on the first team in 2016, while Joey Crockett of Robert Morris (Ill.) University, Anna Boffeli of Saint Ambrose University, and Brianna Scott of Campbellsville University made the second team a year ago. Kooker and Crocket are both on the first team this year with Boffeli and Scott landing on the second team once again.
A junior from Atlanta, Georgia, Kooker is a double major in criminal justice and psychology and boasts a 4.00 G.P.A. Kooker led Lindsey Wilson in hitting with a .372 average to go along with five home runs, 12 doubles, 32 RBI, and 42 runs scored. She helped Lindsey Wilson to a 39-13 record and a spot in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round.
Crocket hails from Joliet, Illinois, and owns a 3.93 G.P.A. The senior applied health science major batted .372 this season for Robert Morris, while collecting 14 doubles, two triples, three home runs, and 21 RBI in 35 games played.
A senior from Eldridge, Iowa, Boffeli carries a 3.76 G.P.A. as a nursing major. In 49 games played, she batted .364 with 12 doubles, three triples, one home run, 20 RBI and 29 runs scored. She helped the Bees to a 33-18 mark.
Scott is secondary education major from Greensburg, Kentucky. Owning a 3.93 G.P.A., the junior helped Campbellsville to a 38-15 record and earn a spot in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. Scott batted .303 with nine doubles, a triple, five home runs, 36 RBI and 36 runs scored. She was named the Mid-South Conference Champions of Character Award winner and earned a spot on the all-conference second team.
Joining Weeks, Crockett and Kooker on the CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team are Lauren McCroskie of Columbia (Mo.) College, Hannah Moak of William Carey University, Hailey Chambers of the College of Idaho, Moriah Bohlman of Morningside College, Taylor Braselton of Reinhardt, Kailey Jenkins of Friends University, Hannah Campbell of William Woods University, and Hannah Castor of Taylor University.
Making the CoSIDA Academic All-America® second team along with Boffeli and Scott are Sarah Crews of Clarke University, Morghan Dieringer of University of St. Francis (Ill.), Alyssa Colding and Marinna Shadley of Ave Maria University, Kelsey Randall of Southern Oregon University, Nicky Salloum of Madonna University, Taylor Eilders of Corban University, Rachel Sullivan of Columbia (Mo.), and Hali Gruntowicz of the University of Great Falls.
There are five student-athletes with a G.P.A. of 4.0. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team boasts a combined G.P.A. of 3.89, while the CoSIDA Academic All-America® second team has a combined G.P.A. of 3.76. The overall G.P.A. for this year’s team is 3.83.
