Reconnecting. High energy. Smiles and comaraderie and collaboration. Networking opportunities galore. Three awards ceremonies, recognizing three years of (2020, 2021 and 2022) of the best-of-the-best athletic communicators and our colleagues after the pandemic stripped everyone from an in-person convention the last two years. Fifty-one educational and professional development sessions, many of which were standing-room only.
That sums up the 2022 CoSIDA Convention as we welcomed 830-plus members, exhibitors and corporate sponsors at the event which concluded on June 29.
The fourth and final day of #CoSIDA22 was both historic and emotional as the organization passed the gavel to the first Black woman to serve as president and said goodbye to its beloved executive director in the first in-person convention in three years.
in a month where the 50th anniversary of Title IX is being celebrated, Jessica Poole of Chicago State accepted the gavel from Cindy Potter of Columbia College (Mo.), who also paid tribute to 2020-21 pandemic president Sam Atkinson of Gallaudet. The trio completed a historic transition with Atkinson, just the second president from Division III, giving the gavel to Potter who was the first person to serve in the role from the NAIA. June 29th, 2022 marked the first time that the CoSIDA presidential gavel was passed between two females. In a meaningful moment, Potter added that she was proud to hand off the role from "mom to mom" when she introduced Poole.
Doug Vance, who is retiring from his role as executive director in July, is also a CoSIDA Hall of Famer and past president. On Wednesday, he became the third person to receive the CoSIDA Distinguished Service Award and was paid tribute in a video featuring many special friends from his career. Watch the video

Other awards included the 25-Year Awards, President’s Award, Bud Nangle Award, Bill Esposito Backbone Award, Bob Kenworthy Community Service Award, Mary Jo Haverbeck Trailblazer Award, Achievement Award, Rising Star Award, passing of the presidential gavel, and more.
