Our 2023 CSC Unite conventioon officially kicked off on Sunday, June 11 at the Orlando World Center Marriott. As the convention continues, it’s expected that over 700 will attend our newly branded convention — known as #CSCUNITE23 — a tribute to the importance of education, networking and re-connecting after another challenging academic and athletic year.

Sunday saw hundreds register and enjoy fellowship and friendship as we returned to the World Center Marriott for the first time since 2019. Sunday’s professional development programming focused on being intentional about building your career to increase your influence and value with Iowa Deputy Athletics Director Beth Goetz and communications consultant and former college administrator Chris Werle; a mental health and wellness session with It’s The Zone Co-Founder & COO Erik Poldroo and mental health empowerment speaker Ivy Watts, and a diversity and inclusion “it’s more than you think” breakout conversation covering all aspect of the DEI space and how sports communicators can foster an environment of inclusion.

Educational lounge standing-room only sessions followed on building a staffing blueprint with a small staff; the first of three Adobe training session on using Adobe CC Libraries, Adobe Express and PhotoShop software to find ways for communicators to work effectively and efficiently with creative teams to enhance your creative contest and your brand asset, with presenter Akshay Ram (Adobe product manager and former Syracuse athletic communications student assistant); football Genius/NCAA Stats; and graphic design strategies and how to’s with creative designer Chris Charizopoulos, who has a background in developing award-winning content in pro sports and college sports.

In a revamped career center/job seekers session, the Young Professionals and Job Seekers Committee to put together a “communications carousel” to build and enhance your connections, teach networking basics, how to sell yourself to employees and how to establish healthy boundaries with work/life integration. They then conclude the day’s programming by hosting the annual and ever-popular speed networking session which drew nearly 200 attendees for rapid-fire questions and giveaways.

The networking continued with two home-run social events, the annual CSC kickoff social and welcome in the exhibit hall, followed by CSC, Women Leaders in College Sports and the N4A partnering to host a high energy reception to close out the day’s activities.
