Generating consistent statistics and consistent stat reporting are essential duties of each athletic communications department. This webinar, with five leading pro and college football statisticians, featured a discussion and insights on:
- new college football rules
- best practices for pregame preparation for statistics, setting up stat personnel, and post-game reporting; working with your opponents’ athletic communications football contact(s)
- the use of proper in-game football scoring techniques to register accurate statistics, including: entering starters; duplicate uniform numbers; what sources to use if unsure about a play; recording basic statistics (spotting the ball, jersey number changes, intended targets, RPO vs. rushing, lateral vs. pitch
- discussion of difficult/unusual plays, ways to troubleshoot them and the way to accurate stat them during the game
- best practices and communications in editing game files
