Past 25-Year Award Recipients
25-Year Award
Presented to College Sports Communicators members who have completed 25 years in the athletics communications profession. Vetted and voted on by the Special Awards Committee.
Greg Royce — CUNYAC Director of Communications
Greg Royce was named CUNYAC director of communications in January, 2025.
He joined the CUNYAC as director of communications after spending the last three-plus years at Goucher College, most recently as assistant athletic director for communications and operations. At Goucher, he oversaw athletic communications for 20 NCAA Division III athletic programs as well as varsity equestrian and served as a member of the department’s leadership team. He started his Goucher tenure as director of athletic communications before being promoted to his most recent post in February 2024.
Last summer, he was a recipient of the EAST-COMM’s prestigious Irving T. Marsh Award, given for those who exhibit excellence in the field of athletic communications. Royce spent seven years on the Executive Board of EAST-COMM, serving as president in 2021-22.
Prior to Goucher, Royce was at Stevenson University for six years as associate AD for athletic communications. A 25-year veteran of athletics communications, Royce has also held communications positions at his alma mater, Southern New Hampshire University (2007-15), American International College (2003-07) and the University of New Hampshire (2000-03).

Andrew Wu, Maryville (Tenn.) Director of Athletics, former Goucher College Director of Athletics: "I remember being very pleasantly surprised to hear that Greg was interested in joining our team at Goucher and we joke about how quickly our first conversation led to an offer. He brought deep experience, new ideas, and a sense of humor to the job and we were quick to develop a friendship. Greg is an asset to the field and I’m grateful for our time working together. Congratulations on 25 years!"
Bill Gorman, Wentworth Institute of Technology Senior Associate Athletic Director / Director of Athletic Communications, CSC 25-Year Award (2019): "I have had the pleasure of knowing Greg Royce for the better part of 20 years now. During this time, I have witnessed a consummate professional who has done an outstanding job promoting student-athletes and teams at each of the institutions he has worked at. Additionally, while at Southern New Hampshire, many of his student workers went on to work in the field of college athletics because of his guidance and mentorship. Greg has also worked his way through the EAST-COMM presidential rotation and hosted two workshops, including the first one held post-COVID. His passion and dedication to this profession (and his beloved Boston Red Sox) is second to none and he is beyond deserving of the CSC 25-Year Award."
Tom Emberley, Farmingdale State Director of Athletic Communications: "Greg Royce has made a profound impact on our profession, and on me personally in the field. From the days where I met him while he was cutting his teeth at the University of New Hampshire, Greg’s dedication and work rate to providing the best possible publicity and promotion for his employers is, frankly, unparalleled. I am honored to have shared the stage with him last June as recipients of the Eastern Athletic Communications Association’s Irving T. Marsh Award, as Greg is somebody who is beyond deserving of any recognition that comes his way – even if he would rather not be in the spotlight! Greg has been a colleague, mentor and friend of mine throughout his tenure in this great field, and seeing him recognized once more is exceptional to see."

Royce on his quarter century of professional service…
"It seems hard to believe that I have been involved in the profession for 25 years now, and I am excited to receive this award from CSC. I've been blessed to work with some outstanding student-athletes, coaches, administrators and colleagues throughout the industry, as well as those assistants, graduate assistants and student staff that have worked with me over the years. Without all of those people, we wouldn't be able to do what we do."
His advice to other athletic communicators…
"The relationships you build in this industry are vital, it truly is a people business. Get to know your student-athletes and coaches on your own campus, but just as vital, develop relationships with your colleagues on other campuses. Ultimately, we're all in the same boat and trying to promote our programs the best we can. I can't count the number of times I've reached out to a colleague with a question on how they've handled a situation, or vice versa, and one of the things I love about the profession is how we all willingly share our knowledge and expertise.
Have fun! It's sports. Take your job seriously of course, but ultimately, we get to watch games and work with amazingly talented young people who will go on to do great things. Also, be sure to take time for yourself, without learning over the years about when to take time, I wouldn't have been in the profession this long."
