On a busy CSC Unite 2025 slate full of educational lounges, collaborative sessions, and breakout activities, the theme of day three was the stories at the center of it all.
The day opened with a featured conversation with 2025 CSC Dick Enberg Award recipient
Ruth Riley Hunter, hosted by ESPN’s
Holly Rowe, where Riley Hunter discussed the story of her athletic career, her current work in the NBA with the Miami Heat, and her pride in her current philanthropic work with numerous charitable organizations.
Dawn Dugle, an award winning storyteller, led an educational session on the art of crafting compelling stories and a writing breakout session alongside ESPN’s
Andrea Adelson. “A game is not the story,” Dugle said. “Stats, figures, numbers, mean nothing without the people in it."
In the CSC/
NACMA collaborative session, attendees heard from a panel of knowledgeable marketing and communications professionals. Speaking in a standing-room-only auditorium, the panel worked together to emphasize the importance of maintaining a consistent brand voice across channels while still tailoring content to each channel’s unique audience.
Members that attended the CSC/
N4A collaborative session heard from a panel, including newly announced 2025-2026 Division III president
Katie Gonzales, who spoke on the importance of ensuring that each member across schools’ athletic departments, from communicators to marketers to academic services, are involved in storytelling.
Alongside the stories of the athletes themselves, day three was about the stories of the people behind the scenes, both concerning how to promote their careers and how to protect their well-being.
At the
RADical Health session,
Kelly Seaver and
MacKenzie Kelly from the RADical Hope Foundation spoke to attendees on making self-care a priority through self-awareness, understanding one’s priorities, and managing time and energy effectively.
Members that attended the session, “Learn from the best in the business: Stories of success and failure from 2025 CSC award winners,” met with Special Awards recipients and 30-Under-30 winners, celebrating their stories of success while learning from the times in their career where they came up short of their goals.
But the third day of the convention slate shined brightest not when it focused on the stories of those in the field who have already arrived, but when it paused to elevate the stories of generations to come.
In an event hosted by the Goodwill and Wellness Committee, students from the
Frontline Outreach program had a chance to meet with experts in the communications field, including NCAA Director of Championships and Alliances—Social Media
Lynnea Phillips,
Andrea Adelson, and DePaul vice president and athletic director
DeWayne Peevy. It was a chance for students to not only connect with established figures in the field but also learn more about a career path of which many had never been exposed.
“Follow your passion,” Peevy told students in the program. “If you put the time in and invest in something, anything is possible.”
