25-Year Award
Presented to College Sports Communicators members who have completed 25 years in the athletics communications profession. Vetted and voted on by the Special Awards Committee.
Derek Crudele — Goldey-Beacom College Sports Information Director
"I am very excited and happy to receive this honor. In the end, this ultimately is not about me. It is about all of the people who have played a major role in me being here. I am grateful to all of the schools I have been a part of, many of the administrators, my graduate assistants who I would not be getting this award without and the student workers too numerous to name. Thank You to Goldey-Beacom College, Widener University, Long Island University, Fairleigh Dickinson University and my beloved alma mater, George Mason University." — Derek Crudele, 2026 CSC 25-Year Award recipient
Derek Crudele began his sports information work as an intern at his alma mater, George Mason University. While serving in various capacities at SportsTicker, Crudele was a volunteer assistant at Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University from 1998–2000. He got his first full-time sports information job in 2000, when he was tabbed assistant SID at Long Island University. Crudele was there for five years before being named SID at Widener University. In 2014, Crudele was hired in his present role as SID at Goldey-Beacom College.
He was instrumental in the creation of a new athletics logo, the overhaul of GBCAthletics.com in September 2015, a subsequent redesign, expanded use of the website, and the addition of a graduate assistant in 2016. Crudele also serves as chair of the college’s athletics hall of fame, vice president of the SIDs for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, and a member of the league’s hall of fame committee.

Matt Levy, Penn State Abington Assistant Athletic Director: "I worked closely with Derek when I was the SID at Delaware Valley and he was at Widener, and he was a true professional in every aspect of the job. You knew when you went there for a game — and the schools have a big rivalry in football — that everything was going to be taken care of from a sports information standpoint and you were going to feel very welcomed. While we have moved on from our days at DelVal and Widener and I moved out of the athletic communications field, we still remain good friends, even if our interactions are much less. I am so happy for Derek to receive this well-deserved honor and he is a credit to the profession."
Dan Lauletta, Wilmington University Coordinator of Sports Information: "Derek Crudele's perseverance and longevity in an ever-changing landscape of sports information are a true testament to his character and love of the industry. Derek is the epitome of what college sports communicators represent and is always a voice worth listening to. Congratulations on 25 years, Derek, and for continued health and success!"
James Wagner, East Coast Conference Director of Communications: "If you look up SID in the dictionary, you will see a picture of this honoree. Derek has made places better everywhere he goes. If I could be half the SID that Derek is, I would be a better man. He cares about his student-athletes and makes sure they get the attention they deserve. In this age of graphics and videos and the like, Derek gets the critical stuff done (stats and releases) with expert efficiency. Felt like I've known him forever and he will continue to excel at what he does, wherever he is at. He is like the SID brother I never had. Congrats my man!"
