This will be the first time the CoSIDA Goodwill and Wellness Committee has worked with Three Square for the annual community service project.

This is the 11th community service project organized and coordinated by the Goodwill and Wellness Committee in the past 11 years (San Antonio ’09, San Francisco ’10, St. Louis ’12, Orlando, ’13, ’14, ’15, ’17, ‘19, Dallas ’16, Washington D.C. ’18, Las Vegas ‘20).

Three Square is Southern Nevada’s only food bank providing food assistance to the residents of Lincoln, Nye, Esmeralda and Clark Counties.

Three Square’s mission is to provide wholesome food to hungry people, while passionately pursuing a hunger-free community. Three Square combines food banking (warehousing canned and boxed goods), food rescue (obtaining surplus or unused meats, bread, dairy and produce from hospitality and grocery outlets), and ready-to-eat meals to be the most complete food solution for Southern Nevada.

“We could not accomplish as much as we do without the support and commitment from our community partners,” said Matthew Hirsch, Director of Volunteer Engagement & Agency Services at Three Square Food Bank. “We are beyond thankful to the CoSIDA Goodwill and Wellness Committee for their partnership and making a positive impact for our neighbors in need.”

CoSIDA volunteers will pack weekend bags of food for food insecure children in Southern Nevada. One in Five children in the Las Vegas community live in a food insecure home. More than half of Clark County School District students are enrolled in free or reduced-price meal programs. Through the Pack and Giveback Program, every Friday, Three Square provides 4,500 bags of supplemental weekend food for children at 250 schools.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Three Square at the 2020 CoSIDA Convention in Las Vegas,” said Chris Mitchell, chair of the CoSIDA Goodwill and Wellness Committee, and Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications at Washington University in St. Louis. “Our volunteers are looking forward to a fun-filled day and the opportunity to give back to the Vegas community.”

About
At each CoSIDA Convention, the Goodwill and Wellness Committee organizes a community service project that benefits a charity or non-profit organization in the host city. The service project is open to any CoSIDA and NACDA and Affiliates convention attendees to participate in.

In the beginning of this annual tradition the committee also held a donation drive during CoSIDA Convention registration (2010-15) where they would collect donations, such as clothing and toiletries, for the local charity.
