In college athletics, we need leadership change agents, particularly when it comes to digital and video technologies and strategies and an understanding what's driving communication change in college athletics and how to provide leadership in a changing digital economy. We as communication professionals can either sit back and try to do things the way we 'always done them' or we can adapt and provide leadership to our staff on what's changing, how it impacts the program (from the budget, to the staff, to the student-athletes, to the fans, to alumni, to the campus community) and become part of this change rather than a barrier. Join us for a discussion on elevating your leadership when it comes to digital communications and what you need to know as a leader (understanding MMRA's, data, ad tech, licensing, and more.)

Will address some of the ongoing lessons being learned during this time of our global crisis amid the CoVID-19 pandemic and most recently, with race relations and inequality. While many organizations have a crisis management plan, it might be wise to not focus on the word "crisis," in your communications strategies; rather, the focus should be on reputation management as being the key to all of the work you do. Join these presenters for a discussion how to manage the message and how to manage and organize internal and external stakeholders when issues arise. An additional discussion will center around the question: Do you build a philosophy of messaging on current events (or not)? Do you use your institutional social media outlets to communicate on social issues? If so, how do you go about shaping that message with current events/political implications, or - do you continue to only message on sports and your organizational branding strategies? How do you respond to a breaking national tragedy or incident?

This discussion will focus on the following: What does this "pivot" mean and look like; how do you position yourself for it; what tools can be provided to assist women in college sports who are ready to make this move; how to best broaden your networks and strengthen your skill sets; and asking the question, "are you being strategic about making a pivot?"
