CSC community service project helping educate youth on sports media
by Ryan Davis – Missouri Valley Conference, Assistant Commissioner for Communications // CSC Goodwill & Wellness Committee Vice Chair
Back in 2021, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Goodwill and Wellness Committee teamed up with
Frontline Outreach in Orlando for its annual community service project. With the 2021 Convention being virtual, the project was geared toward making a lasting impact on the students at Frontline Outreach for many years to come. The project helped create the Frontline SportsCenter Youth Network (now
Frontline Innovation Studios) which is a project-based learning program that teaches students how to broadcast live events and be part of a broadcasting crew. The career-filled program infuses hands-on camera engagement, oratory skills, entrepreneurship, and technological media to create content and record live events. The committee was able to raise $3,664 through the 2021 virtual 5K to help fund equipment for the studio.
This year, CSC will again partner with Frontline Outreach for its annual community service project through the efforts of the Goodwill & Wellness Committee. A small group of volunteers will work with students at the Frontline Innovation Studios on Monday, June 12, from 9-11:30 AM. The students will showcase their abilities by setting up the studio, lighting and cameras, while producing a live studio show where they will interview select broadcasting talent.
“We are so excited to finally see Frontline Innovation Studios in person,” said
Ryan Davis, CSC Goodwill and Wellness Committee Vice Chair. “When our committee helped formulate this program two years ago, it was our goal to establish something special that would impact local Orlando youth for many years to come. To see how far Dwight Mitchell and his team at Frontline Outreach have taken this program in only two years is incredible.”
How can you help?
Conventions attendees can help support Frontline Innovation Studios by registering for the
CSC 5K Fun Run/2-Mile Walk. All money raised will be donated to Frontline Innovation Studios at Frontline Outreach.
The in person 5K Fun Run/2-Mile Walk will take place at the Orlando World Center Marriott on Monday June 12 at 6:30 AM (ET). There is also an option to participate virtually and help support the cause in that way.
The event is open to CSC, NACDA and affiliate members as well as non-members. Anyone is welcome! You can join a team or form your own team for this fun challenge!
